We should also start on obesity and alcoholism.

The AFL peddle anything to anyone - as long they get some coin out of it.

But then it is back to AOK's origianl question, why not advertising brothels, and pole dancing on the big screen?

Is it because of the sexuality visuals, compared to the damage addictive gambling does to a family, which cant be overtly seen in public?

Double Standards?

Lance or James??

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

No, it's because they aren't getting sponsored by brothels or porn dealers.

If they were, then they'd let them do whatever they've paid for.

The reason they aren't sponsored by brothels and or/porn dealers, is that that would directly result in people not going.

I said earlier - if you don't like it, don't take your kids. To which I was told was a dumb statement.

I bet though (pardon the pun), that people wouldn't think it was such a dumb statement if there were nudies on the scoreboard every 5 minutes. People wouldn't go.

Loss of dollars.

The fact that people will still go, however outraged they are by the blatant peddling of a cultural cancer, means the AFL couldn't give a stuff.

So really, the double standard lies with those taking their kids.

Wrong. There would not be nudes on the scoreboard because there is legislation that restricts that sort of advertising. ie. Where and when.

The AFL isn't the problem because this sort of advertising is also popping up in newspapers, online, club emails, and on TV. Not sure whether it is the AFL or the stadium that reaps the profits from scoreboard advertising, but I suspect the later.

It's the AFL.

And there are huge billboards for brothels and stripclubs all over the place.

But as I said, the double standards lie with the parents who still take their kids along.

The AFL do what they do - make money. They don't care how. We all know that.
There's no double standards from them.

Right. And I won't go outside either lest one of your massive billboards jumps out at us. And disconnect the electricity. Maybe I can become a subsistance farmer.

I'm not saying you shouldn't go. I couldn't care less.

But you know it happens, and you choose to go. Your choice.

And why are they my billboards??

The poor kids. Dont these poor kids have parents. It is occasionally up to parents to be parents. My Daughter goes to the footy every week and sees the ads for gambling, she sees me gambling but wouldnt waste her time on it because she has no interest. She sees me drinking but doesnt drink yet, thank goodness and watches MA rated movies on TV. Maybe we should ban everything for the poor 5% of people who are sex, gambling and alcohol addicts or maybe we parent our kids to what is right, wrong and stupid.

By the way I think gambling is a great thing is you can afford it and if my daughter ever wants a bet when she is under 18 she can any time she likes as long as she pays. She will soon get sick of it.

your.best.post.EVER :-)

Theres a certain % of people who should have had to sit a parenting exam before they had unprotected sex

They are the ones whose kids turn out to be ratbags, but blame "society" for it

Would it be okay for massage parlours to advertise on the scoreboard with scantily dressed women in provocative poses?

How about at half time we have 3 pole dancers and we get to vote on the best of them... the winner gets a root.

The above quote reminded me of a scenario at the Gabba some years ago, maybe 7 or 8. Lions were getting thumped By Weagles, and I was dragged to a back bar to drink during the second half by a piss*d off Lions supporter. Whilst having a cold one at the bar we were approached by three young ladies handing out 10% discount coupons to the local brothel. They stopped and had a chat with us for 15 minutes or so. I never did find out if they were authorised to be there or not.

If it bothers you, and you can't educate your kids - then don't go.

If you're comfortable with it, and confident in being able to parent effectively regardless of advertising at the footy - then what's the problem?

No one is saying you can't have a bet.

It is interesting though that some people have no concept of society, and believe that they bear no responiblity for the wellbeing of others.

Advertising is seductive. It is designed to be so. Most of us are cynical enough not to believe everything we see in an ad, but there are still plenty of people who are naive enough fall for gimics. I love the one where you text to find out the name of your future husband/baby, and end up paying $20 a week for garbage texts.

Parents have a huge influence on their kids as they grow up. However, it is unrealistic for parents to keep their kids in a bubble. Society also has an obligation to meet with reasonable standards.

It is too easy for people to sit back and say "It's all the parents fault".

Hell, let's do away with the rules.

Bring back the ciggy ads. Historically Mum and Dad have done a great job of warning their kids off them.

How about ditching the time requirements on the "Want longer more satifying erection?" ads. Then we can all discuss premature ejaculation problems with our preschoolers.

Wouldn't it be better if Mum could take the tykes into the pokies with her so she doen't have to leave them in the car? Hell if she give the a bucket of coins, she'll be able to win her money back faster.

OR, Maybe we shouldn't be letting betting shops spruik to our kiddies. Who would it hurt if we took it off the screens?

It's not 'we'.

It's the AFL.

And those who keep going to the footy, watching the footy, and putting money into the footy - are literally saying they're cool with it.

If a radio station keeps playing 'erectile dysfunction' ads, and you don't like it then you don't listen to that station. It's very simple. By continuing to listen, they have no choice but to assume you're Ok with it.

The AFL is the same.

The AFL's pockets.

Betfair aren't going to pay them squillions for advertising if they don't let them advertise.

It is even easier to blame society. There are rules and the rules get changed all the time like advertising smoking but at the moment gambling can pretty much be advertised anyway they like and if people dont like it use your parenting skills to explain what is wrong with it. Like i have said i find nothing wrong it and love having a punt at the TAB, on the internet and especially at casinos. My wife and 15 year old child dont have any interest.

So you are defending the right of the AFL's back pocket's, and consider that more important that the welfare of of children and people who are susceptable to advertising suggestion?

I'm not defending anything.

All I'm saying is that if you or anyone else chooses to go to the footy - then you shouldn't be at all surprised or upset at what appears on the scoreboard throughout the game.

And if you are, then dont' go. Because continuing to go, tells the AFL that you're happy with what they're putting out there.

Let me ask you a question...

Are you bothered by people letting their children eat pies and chips and hot dogs at the footy? Considering the childhood obesity epidemic.

And are you bothered by the fact that every second adult at the footy has a drink in their hand and line up 45 deep to get a tray of 4 beers every 15 minutes?
