In disagreeing with me Zebraman, are you saying that the performance from Sandy against Bendigo was acceptable and a better standard than A Grade VAFA. If so, the wooden spoon is for the Zebs this year.

THE Bendigo Bank Bombers' rapid improvement in the VFL continued on Saturday when they defeated Sandringham by 16 points.
The Bombers entered the match at Trevor Barker Beach Oval having lost their previous 10 encounters against the Zebras by an average of 37 points.

However, Sandringham's stranglehold over Bendigo has now been broken after the Bombers won 16.17 (113) to 15.7 (97).

The Bombers - who were winless last year - are one of four teams, along with reigning premier North Ballarat, Williamstown and the Casey Scorpions, that have a 5-1 record after six rounds.

I think there may have been a late withdrawal. Possibly Jay Bruno. I'll find out for sure next match

Bendigo overall a bit quicker around the packs but an entertaining game. Here's a report on some Saint players

Steven - played midfield and was in the thick of the action. His disposal at times wasnt perfect but tried very hard and did some great clearance work.

Stanley - started forward but went into the ruck last 3 quarters. Has a great leap even though undersized in that position, kicked a telling 50m+ set shot in the last quarter. Played a strong game.

Jesse Smith - came on for 10 min bursts playing hlaf back or wing. Did well, his touches were quality, intercepted a ball from the backline and created. No sign of leg issues, just repeatedly came off after cameos. Was emotive on the field and really feel like he wants to be playing. Just needs more game time but a positive.

Peake - disappointing, played wing and from the bench thought they wanted him to be more aggressive at the bounce. Gets involved and then turns the ball over. Made a telling error in last quarter to pass ball by foot to opposition in ther back 50. More Sandy time for mine,.

Eddy - did really well, hard at the contest, similiar role to Jack Steven.

Walsh - played fullback for nearly 3/4 and very physical at the contest. Went forward and just missed long set shot near the finish. Looks to be coming along well, more games played the better.

Al Smith - did ok, similar to the Steven's, Eddy's but not getting the same ball.

Will Johnson - solid but his disposal is of concern

Archer - looks to have slimmed down some, lost feet in a few contests early but did well late playing back.

Cahill - played forward injured early and didn't return

Hutchings - did ok, disposal tends to be short kicks mostly
Makes you wonder why Peake was in last week! Subiaco ground maybe. From the above Jack Steven should have got back in this week instead of Eddy but possibly he's got a specific job to do for us?

Peake was always likely at Subi....he didnt come with much form at Sandy but think Ross said they were keen to bring him on.

Coverage for the loss of Gram's pace was also a consideration.

Not much between Steven and Eddy on their last run, long term you'd think Jacko had it over Rob Eddy IMO.
