The St Kilda-Liverpool FC comparison
Heard a guy from my city of birth ring up "morning glory" yesterday with this piece of "wisdom" (?) "Liverpool will NEVER win the EPL while they have a player like Lucas in the team, and the Saints will NEVER win a premiership while they have Raph Clarke in the side"
Ah, if only it were that simple! Liverpool have failed to win the EPL title simply because over eighteen years of trying, they have just not been good enough! The Saints failed to win the GF simply because they kicked 9-14! Yes Clarke made a clanger with the Rooke incident, but to say that by just including him in the side we lost that match is ridiculous!
Did our loss have nothing to do with Schneider, Milne, and Mini missing eminently kickable "gimme" goals?
To ring up a radio station with such claptrap makes that person look silly.
(and I defend his right to do that, just dont agree with him)
Wise men seek REASONS; fools look for excuses!

Just go the herald sun website and read the feedback for all the recent Saints articles...this one stood out to me and about sums it up.bigred wrote:Saints "fans" have been potting the club something crazy all week.

Geez Seems to me that the Saints supports are bashing there own quicker than the Pies. How quick can you forget how good Dawson was for you last year and most of you want him drawn and quartered. Get a grip Saints you've lost a game against an improving side. It happens ! Lyon should have proved that he's on the right track by now but your too busy bashing him to support your club.

The point of this post is to illustrate how some look to blame this individual player or that for a lack of success, when the reality of team sport is that the result (good or bad) depends on the sum of ALL parts!
Attacking individuals as a "reason why we'll never win anything" in my humble opinion is just plain dumb!
(however I defend that persons right to be dumb and to declare it to the world if they wish to....just take a look at ME )

Actually, there's a number of similarities between the Saints (98 - 03) and Liverpool FC 2010.
A board in chaos, debt up to the eyeballs, and a distinct downward spiral on the ladder.
But there again, (according to the caller to SEN) all Liverpool need to do is get rid of Lucas, and all will be fine at Anfield

Can't disagree there. Why are we focusing on a middle ranked club like Liverpool.Beej wrote:I like the cut of your jib.jackal wrote:F#$k Liverpool. Go Spurs!!!! 2010 will be the year, Saints win the flag and Spurs in Champions League to resume their place at the top of the football world!!
