McEvoy was winning about the same amount of hitouts before he was dropped, as Steven King has averaged the past few weeks though Ace.ace wrote:McEvoy can't ruck.St Fidelius wrote:McEvoy, Gardner and Kosi can all play forward and ruck.
Stanley can't ATM and can only play forward IMO
Rucking is about winning hitouts not trying to shove your opponent around.

thats how podsi has done well this year, the chains have be loosened a bit as the cats now have a few tall targets up frontStatsman wrote:Spot on!Teflon wrote:We do not need Rhys Stanley to be the answer at all.
What we need from Rhys Stanley IMHO is 2 things:
1. Take a defender AWAY from Kosi to stop the double team efforts in the goal square.
2. Chase and tackle like a nutter when the ball hits the deck - pressure pressure pressure and tackle. Use his pace.
IF he jags a goal or two great -IF he creates a spillage and Milne/Scneider goal great but just provide an option.
His pace will really add defensive fwd pressure and THAT alone gives Kosi (who gets run off by everyone) a huge chop out.
At the moment, when the ball goes forward you know it's going to Kosi because he's the only marking option up there. Sadly, he's out of form right now and therefore not taking marks and also not bringing the ball to ground either. This means our crumbers are not finding opportunties at gorund level and the opposition is able to rebound out of defense too easily.
Stanley can help by providing another marking target up forward to give our midfield more than one option inside 50. He should also be able to use his quickness and mobility to present a lead up target leaving Kosi to play deep as the "long option".
If he presents strongly, takes a few grabs inside 50, applies pressure without the football and can jag a goal or two he'll have more than done his job.
how's his stamina?Statsman wrote:Stanley can help by providing another marking target up forward to give our midfield more than one option inside 50. He should also be able to use his quickness and mobility to present a lead up target leaving Kosi to play deep as the "long option".
there's a big difference between fading in and out of a vfl game and presenting strongly all day in an afl game, while putting on forward pressure and keeping your place in the defensive press.
i'd be surprised if he could run all day like roo or even as much as kosi, so i'll also be surprised if he plays this week.
I'm preparing for Goddard to go forward, will that make you spit?matrix wrote:prepare to be disappointed??????????
way to go supporting the youth coming thru!!!

I don't know if this suggests anything re: Stanley's stamina ..butbergholt wrote:how's his stamina?Statsman wrote:Stanley can help by providing another marking target up forward to give our midfield more than one option inside 50. I remember Roo saying that Stanley and he spent time training together pre-season and that Stanley pushed him to the limit.

It was reported on this forum after a Sandy win, that Stanley turned the game when he went into the ruck. He was put among the best players that matdh. McEvoy was also playing and was not mentioned. Since then, Stanley has not played a full game, or maybe one, but has been the emergency for the Saints. I have the feeling that he has moved past McEvoy as a ruckman.

just an opinion
just got sick of the 'oh lets try so and so, lets try him. ok now him, errr lets give him a go too'
band aid on a gash i thought
Well Kosi didn't play against Freo, so Goddard CHF, Kosi FF is entirely possible.matrix wrote:around the CHF area no probs with meSainterK wrote:I'm preparing for Goddard to go forward, will that make you spit?matrix wrote:prepare to be disappointed??????????

For that reason I would lean towards Eddy or Heyne?
Either way I think this week is exciting, the challenge has been put to 'em.
Yep, I said exactly that on the teams thread....not that the unspeakable is going to happen thoughmatrix wrote:i know this tho K...
if the unspeakable happens, this place will be certainly interesting sunday night.
again i have to tape the game and watch it after work around 11pm
in all honestly unless we win by 5 goals i can see peeps being unhappy.
