give them something to kick to ...
... for christ's sake.
we are going sideways and backwards because we lack viable forward targets.
i've seen enough of kosi to know he is not the answer at ff.
goddard to ff full time until riewoldt gets back, blake or gilbert to present at chf and kosi to second ruck. king out.

I said last year Gilbert to ff or chf he is like a young Frazer G with his pace could be a great forward.I know that leaves a hole in the back line bring in gaertner big been best for sandy last 4 weeks.
He might not be up to it but what have we got to lose by playing him a game well we did that tonight ha so play the kid he is really good.

i think we have to do something radical about the forward set up before the rot sets in. gilbert to chf. goddard to ff.

We got smashed in the ruck, with no center clearances, so we were always on the defensive. But we had all 18 players in the back half, and when we did get the ball, we had NOBODY to kick to. Hence we were forced to stuff around. I thought Kosi presented well, but he is a traditional lead-up forward, and not designed to run back with the flight. I agree with Gilbert up forward, possibly playing Roo's position. The mid fielders will find more confidence, and pace, if they have a forward target.

A problem with Gilbert in the forward line is he cant kick straight.
Heyne Goddard Schnieder
Milne Walsh Steven
Kosi, McEvoy and Gardiner in the ruck.
Dont go all crazy on me about Walsh.
If i were coaching i would give him a go, can't do much worse than kosi, also alot better when the ball hits the ground.
I think we need to take a lesson from carltons forward line.
Lots of smalls no big tall superstar.
Get a big (kosi or walsh/stanley) to crash the pack to get the smalls like milne, schnieder and steven to crumb the ball.
Goddard and Heyne are lead up forwards, sounds good to me now
But how would it go in a game??

Some players will develop better in the first 22. The boy can jump lead and mark. Good enough for me. His leap is also exceptional and would have at least provided some first use to our mids tonight. Rumour has it that he has a bit of pace as well

Agree totally. Why replace an exceptional leading forward with a backman that, was at least until Roo went down, settled.
SainterK wrote:Not sure we should be stealing people from defence anymore, it's starting to de-stablise IMO.
I would rather find something and stick to it, the rejigging isn't doing anyone any favours at the moment.
Need to stablise our side and quickly.

have you seen sandringham play this year? he played forward for them last week and, sadly, i just couldn't pick him on what i saw. tommy walsh looked closer to senior selection.SaintWal wrote:Some players will develop better in the first 22. Not sure if Gilbert will be up to it but Goddard is simply a must at FF IMO.
I reckon it looks something like this:
King out
Kosi into the ruck
Goddard to FF
Raph out
Stanley in and to CHF
Gaertner in and into the backline
Armo in, perhaps for McQualter, who hasn't kicked a goal all year

so glad I'm not alone.... lyon destroyed the backline in the past 2-3 weeks.... by slowly rotating them out of position to the extent where they ae looking around confused on who is on who, who is actually down there etc.bigcarl wrote:... and i've had it with this rotating players through the forward line for five minute bursts.
gilbert to chf. goddard to ff. and leave them there for the whole match.
Create a back six. The select a group of forwards who will work hard both ways but will also lead towards the midfielders.
My forward line looks something like
stanely/kosi/gardner (rucking/forward)
heyne, clarke (lead up forwards)
schneider, milne, mini/steven/dal resting mid
Therefore we have one tall, a couple of medium lead up players (heyne will play more of a midfield role and clarke needs to continue to run). Schneider also leads hard and needs to work with milne off the tall ruck/forward.
Once we have this funtioning then its easy enough for the midfielders and backline runners to hit up the leading forwards or have the tall get out kick. They will therefore run hard to position as there are less chances of the bal being turned over and kicked over their heads.
It's a nice flexible set up that can be changed slightly but still allows the backline and forward line to develop as a team.....
Time to bite the bullet ross and develop a forward line who are forwards

that looks okay, but i think gilbert would be more up to it than stanley at this stage.dcstkfc wrote:Don't mind it.bigcarl wrote:'saint58 wrote:I said last year Gilbert to ff or chf he is like a young Frazer G with his pace could be a great forward.I know that leaves a hole in the back line bring in gaertner big been best for sandy last 4 weeks
