what score do the Saints need

Post: # 919764Post saintbrat »

to take top spot- I have never really studied the % situation and was just wondering what we need to get from 141.00 to more than 146.4
Ladder of rd 7
Collingwood 7 6 1 0 811 554 146.4
Fremantle 7 6 1 0 785 603 130.2
Geelong 7 5 2 0 857 590 145.3
St. Kilda 6 5 1 0 509 361 141.0

If we kick a score of 100 and keep the Blues to 54 points we'll be on top.

Saints 101 Blues 45 would give us a % of 148.7

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

A one point win or more would be good unless of course you win the flag for being on top the most during the year.

maybe a better question is how many points do we need to score to improve our scoring rank up to where we want it?

geelong 857
collingwood 811
fremantle 785
sydney 698
brisbane 670
bulldogs 629
essendon 603
west coast 598
carlton 592
port adelaide 590
melbourne 583
hawthorn 578
kangaroos 574
st kilda 509
adelaide 483
richmond 426

we've played one game fewer than everyone else except carlton, but still, third bottom in points scored? if we score similarly to the last two weeks, we'll stay in this position - needs 65 points just to get ahead of the kangas.

yeah, i know, it doesn't matter as long as we get the four points. but i'd still like to see some proof that we can kick a score. 100 points tonight would slide us in just ahead of essendon at 7th on this list. that'd be about right, i reckon.

as for points conceded, we're number one and will stay that way unless carlton score 188 points. let's avoid that, as well.

Certainly would be good to have a massive win tonight and boost our percentage, not just for this week but other weeks as well. Top 2 is the power positions and if we can keep winnng and stay at the top end of the 8 till Roo is back would be awesome. Go Saints.

If we keep winning I will be happy. If we keep winning, percentage will take care of itself and the teams we beat will drop as our Premiership point tally increases and their tallies remain stagnant and their percentages drop. We also haven't played many teams down the bottom end of the ladder yet.

Of course a good win with a high score and margin would be entertaining and look cosmetically good, but I would be happy with 6 wins and 1 loss, just as I would have been last year. Carlton are playing for a spot in the 8 so we should expect a tough contest and I am not overly confident tonight.

The home and away season is practice for September IMHO and our percentage and being two games clear after Rd 22 virtually counted for nothing last year considering we nearly didn't make the GF to a team that won 5 games less than us during the year.

That is a pivotal stat as far as I'm concerned and not to be underestimated. Just ask teams like Essendon.

One thing about scoring, as long as we score more points than the opposition, we will win.

Good thing about our style of play is that because we restrict scoring so well we dont have to score massively to boost percentage, a 60 point win when the opposition only score 40 odd is a big percentage booster.

Let x = Carlton's score
y = St Kilda's score

Then in simple terms:
y > 1.46x + 19.5

Blues Saints
10 35
20 49
30 64
40 78
50 93
60 108
70 122
80 137
90 151
100 166
110 181
120 195
130 210
140 224
55 100

Yes but a 30 point win might let us enjoy the moment a bit longer during the game.

I hope we win it playing in a more attacking and positive fashion than we did for most of last week, but if not, 50 to 20 will also see us on top, after the game.

Never mind this week. The next few rounds are going to sort out the ladder a fair bit.
