The blonde guy is very important to our structure...

You thought I meant someone else didn't you! :)

We need Jason Gram in for his run and spark, but also for his importance to our structure.

The team sheets on Thursday will dictate the style of play on Monday night IMO.

We have reverted to this style of play in the absence of Gram, should he be back, you would think Ross will have every confidence to send Goddard up forward again?

Not that it matters to me how we win, but I think there is a huge misconception out there that this current game plan is attributed to a lack of faith in the players ability to play an attacking brand of footy in Roo's absence.

Probably because the Freo game was Sunday twilight footy on Foxtel, and nobody tuned in!

You got me......

Thought this was just another Roo post but I think you're right and most I know would agree about how important Gram is to our structure.

Can't wait till Thursday night to see team sheet and hope he's in, but I have no idea what his hip injury is like or how serious it is.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Does this imply that we can't maintain a forward structure without Roo and that we can't play an attacking game plan without Gram?

Surely we have other players that can step into those roles and allow us to play basically the same style. Granted those replacement players might not be as good as Roo and Gram and therefore we might not be as effective as we would be a full strength. However that would seem preferable to abandoning our game plan all together and playing this ultra-defensive style.

My hope is that we're still trying to play the same game plan and it's just not working out. Surely we're not going out "planning" to flood for 120 minutes and barely trouble the scorers.

Is it Sunday at 5pm for a Monday game?

No, we're going out to shut the game down until five minutes to go.

Seriously our for structure is a work in progress at the moment and Roo and Gram missing means we're making it up on the run.

Next week will be different as the Blues like a shootout.

I don't think it means either statsman, but they're both pretty important good quality players.

From what I've seen the saints have tried to play their normal game but haven't had quite the same execution IMO.

This might force some of the flooding we've seen?

I don't know what happens inside the club but I'm sure that they would want to score high and play fast, I'm just hoping to win against the blues.. Ugly or pretty I'm not fussed too much.

I think you're right about not wanting to flood a whole game, well I hope you're right anyway..

We probably could try something else, but Gram and Goddard are quality players. Without disrespecting the others on our list, these guys on current form, are up there as some of the best in the comp.

I remember reading a quote from Ross after the Freo game, and it was something along the lines of "we knew if we sent Goddard up forward, he would kick some goals"

I just get annoyed with the misconception that this is "roo-less footy" as I don't believe this is the case at all, Gram is just very important to setting up a structure that really worked only a couple of weeks ago.

Agreed, Jones is the best tagger in the league. Would be lost without him. 8-)
