Free Kicks in 2010
Fair dinkum, the umps have given us a rough run all year.
On the weekend it was 18 - 9 the Dogs way.
It's not just the amount, it where the opposition are getting them, the umps clear bias against Milne & Schneider.
About time the club visited Geesh.
Anyone else reckon we have had a raw deal this year?

St.Kilda average 6 more free kicks against per game. The next closest is Hawthorn at 4.8.
St.Kilda have had 15 free shots for 10 goals. The opposition has had 29 shots for their 18 goals.
Against North Melbourne, Collingwood, Port Adelaide and Western Bulldogs, more than 30% of the opposition's goals came from free kicks.

So are you suggesting a conspiracy by the umpires or is it a possibility that our method of tackling or tactics adopted by our defenders needs a tune up? Remember that we are a big tackling side and we do not always execute them correctly. Do you have a list of who our worst offender is in terms of free kicks against?

Most of Milne's against have been bulls*** like the tripping against O'Brien when Milne was going for the ball.Beno88 wrote:Frees Against.

Interesting figures there Beno! Being defenders it would appear that Dawson, Gilbert and Baker have given away most kicks that result in a goal.
Dawson has had a couple of bad ones but a lot of his have been blatant holding by playing the man and not the ball. King does most of his infringements in the ruck trying to negate the opposing ruckmen. Gilbert is more a freewheeling defender and could sharpen up his one on one skills.
One stat that stands out to me is Clint Jones with 3 as he is always around the opposition gun and laying lots of tackles.

I would be in terested to see a breakdown of player by player frees for.
That would reveal where we are generally receiving get frees for.
The consensus appears to be that schneids and yapper get the rough end of the pineapple, (and I agree), and if you think of the frees that they should heve receivd and didn't, and where on the ground they would normally receive them, that probably accounts for the imbalance.
