Not really because if we played on the same day for 4 weeks it would mean 5 games in 28 days....

This 5 day break, 6 day break, 7 day break stuff - it's all rubbish. Every club goes through the same thing.

These players are sublime athletes, they train each day and are all super fit. Ive never subscribed to the theory that a 1 day shorter break makes a s*** of difference...

European soccer teams play 3 games a week sometimes. Before the soccer haters come in and say "its soft compared to afl", well the NRL have their state of origin on a wednesday night, so some players will back up from that. Rugby is a stronger game than AFL in some ways, and it dont make a huge difference there....

Point is our boys are extremely fit, and 1 less days rest wont matter on the day.

I tend to agree. Although short breaks and interstate trips combined will have an understandable disruptive effect. More than naything, getting pounded physically by your opposition will have a big effect, no matter what the length of break.

Good point. Coming back off an interstate trip, or any players who suffered slight injuries in a game - obviously the shorter break will help. But i seriously dont think it makes a difference between winning or losing a match.

Ive played footy before (obviously country footy doesn't compare to afl.. :P ) but ive played two games in a weekend before. I backed up the second day easily, and played again the next saturday without any issues.

Im not fit in anyway comapred to AFL players, but i honestly dont think a 1 day shorter break makes a difference, sorry it just really irks me when i hear people or the media go on about it...

i think the complaint is more to do with the lack of recovery time and planning sessions not so much the ability to get up and play again i mean AFL players fitness wise could almost play every day of the week but its all about recovery to perform at their peak each week

Im guessing most of us here haven't played at the top level these days, so i dont think anyone can comment.

Now that you mention it, in years gone by and Police that were playing AFL always played in the inter-service competition mid week. I dont think it interfered with them.

By the same token it would be interesting to compare our breaks with those of Collingwood, Carlton, and Geelong.

St. Kilda has the most 6 day breaks of any team - 9.

No team has won on back to back 6 day breaks until St. Kilda last night.

Our conditioning team are first class which is a plus.

It's sounder harder when you say 'we've played 3 games in 12 days'.

Which would mean 3 x 5 day breaks in a row.

But we haven't. We've played 3 games in 13 days, which means 2 x 6 day breaks and now we have a 10 day break.

It is definitely the first time it happened this week, and the first time it has happened since last week.

Having researched one whole round, I found that the doggies won last week coming off two six day breaks.

Do you mean that a team with two 6 day breaks has never won the 2nd game? That's an amazing stat.

It would be even more amazing if true. I don't know why I bother writing stuff sometimes.

Amazingly false.

Bulldogs won last week when both they and Adelaide were on back to back six day breaks. Kosifantutti just said that

And I'm sure its been done before.

No, they don't.

All AFL coaches, players and fitness dudes disagree with you.

It's the biggest issue that clubs face in terms of fixturing.

The stats prove that teams with 6 days compared to opponents with 7 have a far greater chance of losing.

NRL teams with lots of Origin players often get rolled the following match because of this.

We've been unbelievably good in this area.

Although we did lose to Port after a 6 day break.

Ross Lyon made particular mention of the fact that we managed to win after consecutive 6 day breaks and pointed out the amazing job Misson and his staff do.

It's not a copout or excuse, it's a fact - 6 day breaks are a huge disadvantage.

High school is a bit different to the level AFL is played at,

In 2009, teams coming off a 6 day break only won 25% of those matches.
