Kicking long to a contest is dead.
Don't know about you guys but I much prefer the footy of the 90's a hell of a lot more than this netball rubbish.
Was a bloody poor spectical for 3 quarters. Chipping sideways, backwards, sideways, backwards, fumble, turnover etc etc is just plain boring.
There is no more contests and the characters of the game are all but dead. The game is now very sterile and frustrating to watch.
We played direct and challenged the dogs in the last with some long kicking and we win...pitty we had to sit through 3 quarters of chess before hand.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to stay on my toes.

look, we were coming off consecutive 6 day breaks, which really roots up the player's bodies - even Ross admitted that during his Presser.
The bloody AFL have lobbed us with another consecutive 6 day break run in about a month, with a possibility of a third string in Rounds 20, 21 and 22 if the Adelaide game is on a Friday night.
But up yours Dimwit, we overcame the lethargy and won.
And THAT is why we had to slow the game down and try and soak up the Doggies run and pressure.
Pretty, flowing, contested footy would be nice to see, but had we tried that tonight we would've got smashed by their fresher legs.
Give me 7 goals to 6 and win over 20 goals to 15 and a 30 point loss any round!

Thought exactly the same thing everyone cheered when he kicked long but it was a turn over and they kicked it straight back in better to chip it around.degruch wrote:The bronx cheer BJ got for kicking long from the kickout was ironic, considering the ball shot straight back to him about 5 seconds later.
As for the 90's football I would prefer a flag than watching Carey dominate.

I agree with most of that, not as good to watch anymore and definately frustrating. Having said that when we have our full strength side and are playing our best footy we are no way near as hard to watch as the last 2 weeks.RodKeoghsLoveChild wrote:Don't know about you guys but I much prefer the footy of the 90's a hell of a lot more than this netball rubbish.

Maybe this year?

It was boring to watch.
But it was tactical.
We kept setting up a massive wall.
The Dogs were disciplined enough to not play into our hands and kick to our numbers for a turnover.
So they kept chipping it around looking for a way through.
It was actually a great endorsement of the concentration of our players to maintain that defensive game plan for so long.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

I as well. It's a winning gameplan. Worked for Sydney, works for us. You won't lose many games when you keep teams to under 50 points, which we've done 4/6 games this season.saint vince wrote:Thought exactly the same thing everyone cheered when he kicked long but it was a turn over and they kicked it straight back in better to chip it around.degruch wrote:The bronx cheer BJ got for kicking long from the kickout was ironic, considering the ball shot straight back to him about 5 seconds later.

STRENGTH THROUGH LOYALTY.

I don't care if we win ugly, sorry, but a big whoopty-doo to opposition supporters who find us boring. Our coach and club are not there to put on a spectable for non-members, it's about banking four points.
I also find it ironic that those who whinge about it, are straight on the talk back after the game to say so. If the arm wrestle isn't compelling, why aren't they turning off?

As soon as he kicked it I thought 'oh crap its gunna come back very quickly'. Wondered if those giving that bronx cheer then decided to hurl abuse at BJ for turning the ball over in a dangerous positiondegruch wrote:The bronx cheer BJ got for kicking long from the kickout was ironic, considering the ball shot straight back to him about 5 seconds later.
Thats Mr. Smartarse to you
Yeah, it was pretty ironic that the ball came straight back after the bronx cheer. However, I was happy he did it - not so much that we decided to go down the corridor, but that it signaled the change in attitude which led to the shift in momentum.
We were being outplayed for 7/8th of the match, Goddard kicking down the middle was the turning point. From that moment onwards (and to some extent, we were building up to this) we played fast attacking footy evident by the 3 goals in 3 minutes (I think).
A real heart-stopper, it was a really gutsy effort to get over the line in the last 5 minutes. A lot of heart in that win.
