Cheering when playing keepings off in the last quarter

On the lines of the successful scarf waving

May I suggest that when we are leading in the last quarter and it looks likely we are going to win that if we start to chip the ball around to each other (ie: play keepings off) we give a huge mighty cheer or maybe a big "sainters" every time the ball is marked - we could even incorporate the cheer with an all in one mexican wave (ie: everyone at the same time standing up together with the scarf in the air and then sitting down again before standing up again when the ball is passed once more)

Last Sunday was the perfec t example where this could have been applied - up by 3 goals with 3 minutes to go we started to play keepings off and we managed to take 1 or so minutes off the clock

They do this in English football and the crowd interaction sounds great - not only are you cheering your team but you are quietly mocking the other team as well for not being good enough to get the ball back

Obviously this would only work if the 4 points are likely in the bag

Unfortunately I do not reside in Australia to start this - however if some saints supporters say in the Moorabbin wing instigated this I am sure it would catch on fairly quickly and it would look and sound saintsational

Agree. There a plenty of people who still boo when this happens. They don't realize why we do it....clearly don't understand the game plan.

No it just pleases me to see that we have a disciplined team

When we started chipping it around with 3 minutes to go last Sunday I was cheering every crappy 20 metre pass backwards and then forwards and then backwards again. Up until that stage Freo had kicked the last 2 goals of the game and were actually threatening to come back - what we did was virtually kill off the game and it was beautiful to watch - the commentators even picked up on it right before it started - they even said "watch St Kilda here they are going to take 1 minute off the clock, Freo need to man up" - and we did and it was a little icing on the cake knowing that we were toying with the opposition.

The ONLY time I referred to "English Football" was re: the cheering

We should get the cheersquad to start of a mexican wave and start a very loud chant to get everyone to join in.

I remember about 5 years ago when we were flogging the eagles at the then telstra dome.
The crowd just went crazy and there was a massive STKILDA *Clap* *Clap* *Clap* STKILDA chant going around, sounded so good.

Everyones too s*** scared to do it lol. But yes, I love doing that. When we had Hawthorn on the toast back in 08 after being 6 goals down it was amazing.

Anything but the booing from years past...I think more people are wising up to the merits of keepings off. Couldn't believe it when you had large proportion of saints 'supporters' booing their own team after they had managed to grab the 4 points.

Don't like the idea of mocking the losing team and fans. Basically lowering ourselves to the level of those dirty pies fans who say that they'll win the flag before a ball has been kicked in anger. Let's stay humble and enjoy the great footy that our team is playing while we can.

Whilst I dont boo the boys when they play keepings off, I could never bring myself to cheer it. I hate it, maybe I dont understand the game? Although I feel like I have a fair grasp on it! Can tolerate it when we are under extreme preassure and defending a lead but I still fear that if you turn it over in your backline you are more likely to concede a goal, games like Sunday where we are clearly winning the quarter I would rather see us go on with the job and look to score again.
