Sunday Twilight games ?? !!
Yesterday's game reminded me of just how much I DON'T LIKE SUNDAY TWILIGHT GAMES
Yeah, I know that the TV networks pay the BIG $$$$$$$$ and they get a say in it but it doesn't mean I have to like them. I'm not a fan of Monday Night games either.
I'm not sure how Saturday Twilight games would go, but would have to be more fan friendly than Sunday. THoughts? !!

Dosent bother me. But I dont have kids and my gf dosent come to the footy with me, so Im probably not a good indication.
Basically, for familes its probably stuffed. Tholught nealry 30K was pretty good v freo Sunday twilight.
I think Sat. twilight may come in with the new teams in a couple of years.

Unfortunately, Sunday twilight games are for the benefit of the Western Australians. They can get a game at a decent hour which is fair enough.
If played in WA, we get the Fox coverage at 4.30 or 2.30 (WST) and conversely the game played here at 4.40 gets beamed into the West at 2.40.
It's a national game and we just have to live with that. When one lives interstate, you realise how lucky Victorian AFL supporters have it, compared to the rest of the country.

The timeslot may be more Western Australian friendly but the reason we have the early start and twilight games is so Fox Sports can show both live. It's as simple as that.
The later start doesn't really worry me personally but I'd prefer we played at 2:10pm for the simple reason that crowds are consistently lower with the 4:40pm start.

I actually prefer the 4.40 as opposed to the 2pm or 1pm sunday game. Simply because it allows us to get there, where as the earlier games often clash with junior sports with soccer and footy being played on SUnday mornings and later and later into the day as the kids get older.
I prefer Friday nights, and Saturday nights to be honest. But then a few years ago he used to play sport on Friday nights and I missed a few Friday nights because of it.
We all prefer the games at the times that suit us best, and this will be different for everyone depending on our commitments.

I have been an advocate of a 4.10pm start, ie half an hour earlier.
It would still allow Fox to show the whole 1.10pm start in full, and mean an earlier finish.
Half an hour earlier finish on a Sunday night would help those with kids and wanting to get them to bed at a decent hour for school on Monday, and still be late enough start for those with Junior Sunday footy commitments I'd be thinking....

I hated the twilight at first but coming around to like it, a slightly earlier start would be perfect

Of course, but also by doing this they are seen to be giving WA supporters a fair go and giving the other states 2 games in a row. All round win for Fox Footy's programming.sainter35 wrote:The timeslot may be more Western Australian friendly but the reason we have the early start and twilight games is so Fox Sports can show both live. Also the 4.40 timeslot is so that the Eastern States other than Victoria get back to back games. When I lived in NSW, you would get a 2.10 Melbourne game and then the 4.40 game back to back.

I dont mind the time slot but I live in Melbourne, If you live in the country though I agree it is a bad time slot, people driving any more than an hour and a half would probably just not go?
What annoys me is the TV coverage, still dont understand how the TV rights deal is worth so much but coverage has got worse, why pay more to show less? Not making sense to me?

Saturday evening game would be better 4.40
and the Monday game DURING holidays would be a boon for getting kids involved- a day or night in the city topped of with a game of footy.

I hate the 4:40 start it's to late home on sudays if you got kids. I would prefer satudays if we have to have them . I love the old 2:10 saturday but they are few and far between these days. It's perfect if you have kids you are home intime to get pizza or something and sit down to a movie or more footy and if you don't have kids you can either head straight out after the game or go home for a night in with your lovely ( or yourself

The guts of it is that we got SCREWED with Twilights for two years in a row!
This year I think we've copped 5 twilighters (including 2 in Perth which aren't quite as bad as they are TV games, so no travel time).
Last year we had 5 or 6 also.
Given there are only 22 twilight games per year, we should only get 2 or 3 max if it was fair.
