Schneider shouldn't have clapped the umpires
Round 21 last year v North, gave them a sarcastic clap.
He's been on the end of at least five shockers since then, he'll never get a free again at this rate.

If the umps are genuinely ignoring illegal contact/holds on Schneider because he annoys them, then that's an absolute disgrace.
It is a depressing fact that - as someone who is far more sympathetic to the umpires than the average AFL supporter - I can't put the idea quite out of my mind.
Over the past decade or so, the AFL umpires have steadily evolved into a jumped-up, attention-seeking bunch of show ponies. Some are better than others, but they are a collective pain in the a4%@e.
Take their mikes away from them, tell them to stop addressing the players by their first names/nicknames, and put them on a scale of performance pay in which the less we notice them, the more $$$$ they get.
All that said, I still reckon Schneider is one of the whingiest, annoying little stagers running around in football. The only time I reckon I've ever seen him get a genuinely raw deal was in the last quarter of the GF. Last night, he was up to his usual caper of screaming or looking imploringly at the umps for frees after minimal contact from his opponent.
Milne, on the other hand, was grabbed and checked constantly and just got on with it.

I try to be impartial as possible when it comes to this sort of thing but there was one or two decisions that left me wondering why there was no free kick paid our way.
You would hope the umpires can be impartial but I noticed a few times on the weekend in different games when I thought the umpires were trying to inject themselves into the game more than was nessecary. It did seem like some where getting a bit high and mighty

Good points. While on the topic I hate hearing the umpires telling players what to do "handball" "tap it out" etc - players will make their own decisions and umpires should adjudicate on what they do - they have become too vocal.meher baba wrote:If the umps are genuinely ignoring illegal contact/holds on Schneider because he annoys them, then that's an absolute disgrace.

I find it hard to believe that, not only is there corruption within the ranks of the umpires, but it's there for all to see! -unlike most forms of corruption. And yet nothing is done about it!
It would be great if decisions were made on the basis of an incident that occurred, rather than, who is involved in the incident.

Sorry to hijack this thread a little, but did anybody else hear Gieschen telling the umpires how much tuime was left in a quarter, and then the umpires telling the players how much time was left during a fox broadcast over the weekend?
I can't recall exactly which game it was (not ours) but I heard it distinctly and the commentators actually passed remarks about it.
Should the umpires be telling the players how much time is left?

Probably not but at least it saves the runners legs as they would tell them anyway.Mr Magic wrote:Sorry to hijack this thread a little, but did anybody else hear Gieschen telling the umpires how much tuime was left in a quarter, and then the umpires telling the players how much time was left during a fox broadcast over the weekend?

The first quarter was really poorly umpired and the dockers seemed to get everything their way. It obviously evened up by the end, but the dockers got ripped off in the 3 rd on a couple as well.
Milne for mine got a hard time of it he should have had a couple of frees for holding that were let go. I believe it is the Rules of the game commitee with the bitter prick Luke Darcy playing the footage of Milney staging on One week at a time and showing the AFLs video as comparison saying that he is still staging. Darcy should be made more accountable as every episode he can he brings up the Riewoldt / lake incident from the prelim. He is running a personal vendetta IMO.
He is a member of an organisation that is there to improve the game in an impartial manner not use it as a personal forum for his own issues.
When the review is done by the umpires I think the ones the missed would not be as bad as the ones they payed- I would rather an under umpired game.
Pav looked like he took a huge dive at one point with minimal contact and Mc phee got one that seemed like it was a legitimate spoil.
That is from being at the ground and not seeing replays so I could be way off the mark.

Is it a common practice and has it been going on for a long period of time?plugger66 wrote:Probably not but at least it saves the runners legs as they would tell them anyway.Mr Magic wrote:Sorry to hijack this thread a little, but did anybody else hear Gieschen telling the umpires how much tuime was left in a quarter, and then the umpires telling the players how much time was left during a fox broadcast over the weekend?

Might be worth the fine, if someone brings up the Milne, Schneider issue because it will put the magnifying glass on the umpires.
If a free kick is there, it should be paid. I reckon we would have won by 6 goals if Milney and Schneider got paid the free kicks they deserved. There were clearly jumper tugs and arms over the shoulder.
The Pavlich freekick against Gilbert still has me dumbfounded.
