I think phil matera has him covered on stats, with a 2.7 goal average, and farmer has a similar goal average but a greater stats and possessions around the ground.
Also should be noted that matera and farmer were both forwards on about 500k p/a for WCE and Freo respectively.
All up Milney stacks up with the best small forwards in the game and statistically one of the best of all time.
If he can creak to 250 games with 500 goals that would put him in the elite and rare category of small forwards, even more so if he can maintain his average for 300 games.
Not bad for a tip rat who apparently can't kick, hand pass, is one sided, one dimensional, soft, a little slow and ugly.
IMO in 10 years time he'll be argued as one of the great small forwards of the modern era with farmer and matera.

Should have had at least 7 goals today if the Umps were 1/2 decent.

The fan at the beginning of the game (Fox Sports) predicted the goals would come from Milne. "How many?" he was asked; "Oh, seven?"... well, he was close. Milne deserved at least one more goal from that push in the back not given.
I had a strong feeling Milne would stand up this week and be a target up forward, IIRC it was a role he played pretty regularly around 2001-2003.

Phillip Matera - 179 games, 389 goals. Average per game: 10.2 disposals, 2.9 marks, 2.2 goals, 1.4 tackles.
Jeff Farmer - 249 games, 483 goals. Average per game: 11.6 disposals, 2.9 marks, 1.9 goals, 1.6 tackles.
Stephen Milne - 192 games, 387 goals. Average per game: 11.3 disposals, 3.5 marks, 2.1 goals, 1.6 tackles.
Statistically, Milne is equal if not better than all of them. He certainly takes more marks over his career.
The other point to make is that Milne has spent his whole career with Gehrig, Riewoldt and Koschitzke kicking a lot of goals.
Matera and Farmer were often the main targets in their respective forward lines.

Predicted he'd get a bad ride from the umpires...but we were playing Freo, so that's academic really. Maybe it doesn't pay to humiliate Collingwood? Geesh would have been flat out co-ordinating the covert payments from the Lexus Centre this week.BakesFan wrote:Should have had at least 7 goals today if the Umps were 1/2 decent.

I love Milney but seem to recall he's kicked only 11 goals in 10 finals since then.n1ck wrote:Seem to recall he kicked 4 in a semi v Sydney in the wet at the G...spert wrote:Still fails the bigggest test -finals footy.
But as long as he's tackling hard and doing the team things you could never drop him.
My dad always says: "Milney will either win us or lose us a Grand Final."
Well he's done the loss so hopefully this year is the win.
STRENGTH THROUGH LOYALTY.

Milney!
WOW! Milney got absolutely NOTHING from the umpires today.Saint Bev wrote:So why won't the umps give him a free? They can't get the whistle quick enough to their lips when Pavolova goes near the ball.
Anyway it doesn't matter, he is awesome and I love him. Good on you Milney, you are an excitement machine and I am glad you are ours.
He was infringed upon nearly every time he went for the ball!
Love the way he has stepped up his defensive game. Great to see him working so hard when the opposition have the ball!
