Whats up next for the Saints (Updated)

Post: # 904011Post SaintSimmo »

With Roo now having surgery he will be missing the next 8-10 couple weeks more or less maybe. Lets say its 10 weeks. Our next 10 games are:
Fremantle (Eithad) - Win (65% Chance of Winning)
Port Adelaide (Aami) - Win (70% Chance)
Western Bulldogs (Eithad) - Loose (50/50)
Carlton (Eithad) - Win (75% Chance)
Essendon (Eithad) - Win (80% Chance
West Coast (Subi) - Win (70% Chance)
Adelaide (Eithad) - Win (85% Chance)
Richmond (Eithad) - Win (99.99% Chance)
Fremantle (Subi) - Loss (The way they are playing, could beat us at Subi)
Geelong (MCG) - Loss (Quality Side)

The Geelong game is round 13, so hopefully all goes well and he is back for this game (best case)

After the Geelong game we play Melbourne, Brisbane, Collingwood and Hawthorn. So we will need Roo back or we might be facing a few more losses.

If this injury was ever going to happen, it has happened at the best time possible.

We are playing 2 teams who made the top 4 in 09 (Western Bulldogs and Geelong).

In my opinion we can win 7 out of the next 10 games without ROO. Geelong, Dogs and Freo (at Subi) are the the games which i will worry about.

Dogs should beat us without ROO, mind you so should have collingwood.

So you never know, if we play Saints Footy we should still be on top of the ladder by the time ROO is back.

I Have great belief in Ross Lyon and the coaching staff at St.Kilda. They will restructure the team, we have the best list in the comp. We WILL work around this and we WILL continue to lead the way.

I Dont see how we wouldn't win 7 of those games with all these SUPERSTARS in the team.
Hayes
Goddard
Dal Santo
Jones
Montagna
S Fisher
Kosi
Gram
Gilbert
Baker

We are very flexible with our team.
Ross will probably play Goddard in the Forward Line and maybe even Gwilt for next week.
Bring back R.Clarke into the backline to cover for Gwilt.
Possible Team for Next Week:

B: Jason Gram, Zac Dawson, Sam Gilbert
HB: Jason Blake, Sam Fisher, Steven Baker
C: Leigh Montagna, Clint Jones, Nick Dal Santo
HF: Andrew McQualter, James Gwilt, Adam Schneider
F: Farren Ray, Brendon Goddard, Stephen Milne
Foll: Ben McEvoy, David Armitage, Lenny Hayes
I/C: Michael Gardiner,Brett Peake, Jarryn Geary, Raph Clarke
Emg: Adam Pattison, Robert Eddy, A.Smith

Out:Riewoldt (Injured)
In: R.Clarke or Rhys Stanley

Still a very solid looking side I reckon.

Then we will have Kosi back which is a big plus. He is a star player who would kick 70+ goals a year for any other team.

also, FOR ALL THOSE PEOPLE BEING SO NEGATIVE ABOUT RIEWOLDTS INJURY AND SAYING THAT WE CANT WIN THE FLAG ANYMORE, GET THE F*** OFF THIS FORUM!

Football is a TEAM Sport, there are 22 players on the ground, we play SAINTS FOOTY and we will continue to dominate.

How do you all think Geelong wins all the games they do without a key forward? They play as a TEAM!!

If we continue to play well defensively, we dont have to kick too many goals to win, PRESSURE, PRESSURE, PRESSURE that is SAINTS FOOTY!! We can still win without ROO!

This is when the club needs us supporters more than ever.

EITHER GET BEHIND OUR TEAM, OR F*** OFF AND GO SUPPORT THE FILTH!

WE ARE STKILDA FC
GO THE SAINTS!

Interesting post Simmo. I'm only looking as far ahead as this coming game against Fremantle. Your point about us only playing one team from 2009's top 4 is an interesting one, but the snag as I see it is that Freo, Port and the Western Bulldogs are currently in the top eight of 2010 :? so what happened in 2009 does not have alot of bearing on how we'll go against these teams. I'll watch with interest how your predictions pan out though...hopefully with 100% success!!!!
Regards

Dave

I think that forward line is too short...it's a bulldog style forward line...

i don't think it will work well enough....

How could we lose? I still remember the 26/9 free kick game at Subi in 2007.

I really am disappointed like most of us to lose Roo, but I guess we now have to adjust.

The thing I keep thinking about is our defense. We have the best overall defense in the competition, it regularly keeps sides to very low scores. I am hoping this will mean we don't have to kick too many ourselves to win games.

We have a nice compliment of medium/talls and talls too:

S. Fisher
Kosi
Goddard
Gilbo
Blake
Gwilt
Gardiner
Dawson
Clarke
King
McEvoy

I think this provides us with some flexibility and we can experiment and try new things out there. I have personally noticed that we have tweaked the game plan to be more attacking this year. Mids are looking to kick goals and we seem a little more free. This is the right time to really push this path and see where it takes us.

Imagine if these guys start learning to share it around, and by the time Rooey is back he becomes the icing on the cake!

It also gives us the opportunity to make a statement, that we are more than Roo, that we are still a great side without him. We like making statements, we are a strong TEAM, and I think they will all be keen to prove the media and a whole lot of pundits out there that we are a one man side. I don't think we are, I don't think the playing group think we are, and last night was the first step in showing that. How well did we respond last night? I couldn't have been more proud. It was a victory for the ages. As I think it was RL that said, we didn't fold up the deck chairs and go home when we were up against.

GO SAINTS, THE TIME IS NOW!

We are going to lose games this year.

And if 2009 showed us anything, it means sweet F.A. As does winning 22 games.

The next few weeks are going to be very, very interesting.

Many scrubs on this forum have been saying that we are far too one dimensional....

I am VERY interested to see how Rossy handles this.

Exciting couple of months ahead I reckon.

If we can get Roo fit by say, at worst Round 15. That's three months away.

That gives us almost two months to set up for a tilt at the flag.

One thing is for sure....We will be super competitive with or without Roo.

The next 8 weeks will define our season.

Win at least 5 and we will be in a very good position. It is not going to be easy and its going to be different, but we have the class to adjust accordingly and still perform.

Our defense holds sides to an average of 70 points. I think we've still got the team to score more than that week to week.

Interestingly with Roo gone on F Friday night you could see the guys looking further forward at the goals - I'm wondering if this will give our midfield a change of head space and start looking for more field goals?

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

I think it will turn out to be a massive positive. Test our depth, learn to adapt without him and to force a midfield to kick more goals (something we've all been crying out for for years!).

As long as he is back and firing for the finals and we've learnt to adjust then we will be in an amazing position.

Hopefully we'll see him up in the coaches box from next week (which is also a fantastic learning opportunity for him as well).

Sam Gilbert you are an EXCITEMENT MACHINE!
