Our new #14
I thought Gears played an amazing game last night. He's still young, but in such a hot contest early all he did was keep his head over the footy and tackle and chase like it was his last ever game. Much more than you could say about some more experienced pies players who love the flashy stuff but actually have no substance to their game.
I have a feeling this number 14 will end up being more valuable to us than our last one.

Man your annoying...but fair enough you're right. Perhaps I should have said, this number 14 will end up being a very good player and hopefully have a premiership medal around his neck one day.plugger66 wrote:So he will win a B&F? Just pointing out Bally was a very good player before injury made him overhyped and overpaid at both the Saints and Pies.kp83 wrote:Man your annoying...but fair enough you're right. Didn't get a possie in the last, apparently, but I thought his first 2-3 quarters were clearly his best in AFL footy. Tough and hard and aggressive. I loved it.
He's almost unrecognisable from last year, in both his build and the way he's playing (especially last night). Are we sure it's still him?

Watching Ball last night made me realise we did the right thing getting rid of him.
He simply cannot kick.
A couple of his kicks just found their target, but the rest were ineffective.
His kicking efficiency this year is a staggeringly low 34% before last night.
Would now be lower.
That is aside of his credibility issues.

Why does he have credibilty issues if we got rid of him?Enrico_Misso wrote:Watching Ball last night made me realise we did the right thing getting rid of him.

The fact that despite his minimal contributions at StK over the last two years,plugger66 wrote:Why does he have credibilty issues if we got rid of him?
his total inability to hit a target by foot,
not to mention kick a goal,
his inability to run quick enough to execute our frontal pressure game plan when they have possession,
and his inability to get into space as an option when we have the ball,
and his inability through lack of fitness/OP to stay on the ground for more than 70%.
Despite all that he felt snubbed when the club decided he wasn't worth $600k per year.
Offended that despite not being in our top 15 players, the club actually felt he didn't deserve the second highest salary.
So he took his bat and ball and sulked off.
Well good riddance to him.
Hope he has many losses with the scym.

Back on Topic
Jaryn Geary continues to improve and his mistakes are becoming fewer and further between. He has come a LONG WAY since being overlooked in the draft and fighting his way on to the list via the rookie draft.
How about it if we compare Jaryn Geary with Jaryn Geary and just appreciate what he can do for our team? !!

Our last number 14 is of no value to us as shown by what we got from Collingwood for him.
I agree with OP, I really liked his game last night, disciplined, hard and backs himself...looking forward and hoping for continual improvement from Geary, seems to have a few strings to his bow; can tag, can play back as well as in the middle and can be dangerous if moved forward as his kicking is not too bad and is not too bad overhead.

Sorry - I meant to say that we "are rid of him".plugger66 wrote:Why does he have credibilty issues if we got rid of him?
And I think we are better off without him
-financially
- and in terms of our game plan
Good Riddance

This kid works hard to improve himeself and we see the results in front of us. Last year he showed he had some ability and this year he is now "arriving" in a bigger stronger body that may allow him to get thropugh a whole season. I expect he'll be even better next year with more conditioning and strength.
The thing that did impress me was that he won't take a backward step and he shows real aggression and he will stand up to anything dished out to him and his teamates. He is tough and won't be pushed around.
This kid has a go!

Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
Very happy with Gears so far. He is a changed person. Have met him several times and in the past was a shy young boy. Talking to him again at the Cocktail Party up here at Chrissie time, he was a different person. Alot more confident and outgoing. Told me he was disappointed with himself for not taking advantage of his opportunities last year and won't let that happen again. Good on him, great game.
