SCARVES this Friday !!
We had a pretty good dress rehersal last week v North, now for the real deal.
This week v Collingwood I would love to see;
THOUSANDS OF PASSIONATE SAINTS FANS PROUDLY SHOWING THEIR SCARVES IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SONG FINISHES WHEN THE PLAYERS RUN ON TO THE GROUND
If enough of US participate, I reckon it will send a REALLY POWERFUL message of support to the players.
They will see it from the SOCIAL CLUB AREA
They will see it from the CITY SIDE (L1,2 & 3)
The will see it from the CHEERSQUAD
So far we have promoted this idea through; SAINTSATIONAL, SAINTS CENTRAL & FACEBOOK
We have contacted the CHEERSQUAD who have offered qualified support
We have contacted the membership Dept at the club and the idea will be "Pushed Forward" at Management Team Meetings
All YOU need to do to get this idea off the ground is to HOLD YOUR SCARF ABOVE YOUR HEAD as soon as the song finishes when the players run on to the ground. We are not going to get a better opportunity to make this work than we will this week
ARE YOU GOING TO BE PART OF IT ? !!

Sorry to be a stick in the mud..but is as soon as the players run out reallly the best time???
5 secs after that...the song starts, and I assure you 80% of the people will put their scarves down and start clapping along to the song..its been happening since day dot
Why not as soon as the song finshes?..the players are still warming up..noones clapping along to anything it will still look great
What youre suggesting here is changing the habits of a lifetime via a Forum that 80% of the crowd dont read
IMHO it is impertive to get the ground announcer or the scoreboard involved....can someone give the Club another try tomorrow??

A great idea Tom! I think its fair comment about folks clapping along with the song, perhaps just AFTER the song ends. Its good to take an initiative like this Tom, rather than what we saw at Sydney with that awful "syd-neeeeee" chant..honestly it was embarrassing, to hear the MC/announcer trying to start up the chant. (I kept roaring SAINT-ERRRRRS! down the ear of my Swannies neighbour each time they tried it) It could well be something that evolves if we keep it going!
Onya Tom! You can shout me a beer for your efforts!

I have received a response from the club stating that our idea will be "Pushed forward at weekly Management Team Meetings".
I see this as a real positive, and that some influential people at the club are On-Board !!

Agree entirely with those sentiments. It seems that the lasting traditions support-wise are those that come from the supporters themselves. rather than "manufactured" chants etc That Woof-woof thing of the Doggies was awful! I can still recall the first time that the Kop sang "you'll never walk alone" before a Liverpool match, it was 1964 and the crowd simply sang along with a record by Gerry Marsden, someone at the club thought it was a good idea to play it again and the rest is history.
(not too many people realise that the song is from a musical "Carousel" rather than a soccer crowd anthem!)
The scarf waving is a great idea and mine will be waved with the rest of'em!

If it could become anything like the way the Liverpool fans have made the singing during home games, then that would be brilliant, not sure that aussie rules lends itself to that extent though.
It could also make Easterna legend as theperson who started it though
I love this club

from my understanding, unless you are a FULL saints member you do not get the scarfplugger66 wrote:I am a an AFL member with Saints support package and a social member.saintdooley wrote:buy a membershipplugger66 wrote:Asked this before. Where do you get these scarves?

Thats a bit rough. The exact same money that a full member pays id passed onto the Saints from your AFL membership so I really am a full member.saintdooley wrote:from my understanding, unless you are a FULL saints member you do not get the scarfplugger66 wrote:I am a an AFL member with Saints support package and a social member.saintdooley wrote:buy a membershipplugger66 wrote:Asked this before. I'm in the same boat as you plugger. I think you just take your membership card along to the membership tents and they give you either a scarf or a cap.
Let's not be mistaken - AFL members are STILL FULL MEMBERS OF THE SAINTS. The extra we pay on top of our saints membership gives us EXTRA entitlements re other AFL games.
