Our running

Post: # 900393Post markp »

Our running and 'spread' was awesome last night!... we just didn't relent.

I was standing near the interchange for the first half, and players were coming off totally spent (more so than usual).... noticed when the final siren went that nearly all of our guys put their hands on their knees and just sucked in air too.

Have we taken it to a new level, or are we still getting into full match fitness?

Could we be even better this year??

It wasn't a total domination, there were periods of the game where we were dragged down to North's level, fortunately, the team is talented enough to drag itself back to playing Saints Footy.

Will we pick up a player in the SSP window :?:

But I dont think they're a crap team... and even though the game was virtually won by quarter time, we pulled away in each of the following quarters, and finished really well in the last... players usually only go down like that after the siren if it's been a close match or a final.

I think that it shows that the longer that you've been about the "saints footy" style of play, the more it becomes a part of your normal game.

Other teams may try to emulate the style, but this has been some years in the making.

It seemed that the game plan may have been tinkered somewhat - even though it was classified as a "traditional" plan it looked biased towards "play on at all costs". Saints were really backing their skills and run through the middle which was one reason that seemed to make the forward line so much less predictable. The spread of goal kickers indicative of this change.

Interested if others noted this ?? Marks were very high (short kick chipping), high possession playmaking, looked similar to Geelong linking players together circa 2007-09.

Tackle count was low last night wasn't it? If so, it means we weren't playing to our full potential.

Goddard in the forward line looked really, really promising too. Adds another dimension to our game plan.

Can only tackle if the other side has plenty of footy and that wasn't the case. The last quarter looked like circle work which still may be too generous on the Kangas.

If Goddard was on a Footy Card he'd be "Utility" - play him everywhere. Ability to sink the pill from outside 50 - BJ, Joey, Peake, Gram (Roo) can't be underestimated.
