Play of the Night !!
For mine the "Play of the Night" was Jaryn Geary's goal(?3rd Q, I think). It wasn't the mark he took running with the flight of the ball but the "Gut Running he did to get to that position where Roo could pop it over the top to him.
I love seeing "Up & Coming" players getting reward for effort in situations like this as it can be the trigger for them to really break-out. I hope its put on his highlight tape and shown to the whole group at review this week !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Yes he is a good kick which will be an asset because he plays quite tall as well. I actually see a bit of Lenny in him and he will gain upper body strength as he gets older.battye wrote:Quite a penetrating kick too. "The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Actually I found it difficult to determine where Geary was playing. continually throughout the match........remember I'm only watching on TV here in the West.
I thought in the first half he was mainly playing out from half back, occasionally thru centre and he was on the bench for a considerable period.
In 3rd quarter especially he appeared to be pushing more into the forward zone and was most effective then.
I assumed he was doing some incredible gut running in the match, becasue a couple of times I noticed him in the defensive half or heard a commentator mention his name down back then after a short passge of play he was deep in the forward half receiving or assisting in some play.
I'm most impressed with the lad..... I was in the early part of last season, and sad he wasn't given another chance at the seniors later in the year........given time I might think he may develop into another Lenny.....we can only but dream.
It's so frustrating when you can only see most of the games on TV and can't really tell what the players are doing off screen.....especially when they are being benched and/or picking up other players for a short time.....then reverting back to the player they were first on after that player has come off the bench.

Seems to be a very good body size on young Geary. He is built like a tough footballer. He was able to crunch his way thru some tackles and hold his position in tough contests. He looks heaps different to when we saw him last season. He is a damn good kick to. He played a good game.bergholt wrote:agree about goodes.
on geary, he had 15 touches and 10 of those were contested. very solid effort considering i thought he might be just an outside player at the start of last year. if he keeps smashing in like that he'll be the luke ball replacement.
I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.
