Personally I can't see Goose ever getting back to where he was pre the broken leg.
He struggled all last year at Sandy.
At best he might fill a hole.
But he is not a long term solution.
Having said that I respect Russell Holmesby.
He is a lot more than "just a supporter".
He is our club historian and knows a lot more about footy than most posters on this site.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

Because he knows our history, He knows more about our current players and club than most posters on this site. Can I ask why the hell would he. He is talking about a player who played all last year in the seconds and knowing Russell very well, i can honestly say he would have seen no more than 2 seconds games all year so what would he know about Goose that many others who see Sandy a lot not know about Goose.Enrico_Misso wrote:Personally I can't see Goose ever getting back to where he was pre the broken leg.

I will say it again he is a supporter with an opinion that wouldnt have any better take on our current players than most people on this site.

He is a supporter with an opinion. Doesnt have any more credibility than people on here who think Goose should have gone.'

Why is that? Because he knows our history? How many games did he see Goose play last year?stinger wrote:no...that's not what you said the first time.....you said he doesn't have anymore credibility than posters on here that said goose should have gone...that is plainly bullsh!t imhfo...he has a lot more credibility......plugger66 wrote:

No I dont. i want you to explain to me why a person who hardly saw Goose play last year has more credibility on whether Goose should have stayed or not than people on this site.stinger wrote:you just don't get it do you???? ...plugger66 wrote:Why is that? Actually, I'm not sure I've come across him before, only mentioned on this forum.
Hmmm...credibility is an odd thing. Do you gain credibility by being taking the popularist line? Behaving in a sage like manner? Being the funniest? The loudest? Buying everyone drinks? Its a subjective thing.
Certainly, from a cultural perspective, knowing a lot about the club holds you in very high stead. But does it mean you know anything about game play, can read a player's, coaches psyche, can take in the big picture, has excellent observational skills or any other aspect of an issue that may affect your ability to form an accurate opinion? Anyone's opinion can be credible.

If you saw Goose a lot more than Baldock last year then you would be a better judge on Goose than even the Baldock. it isnt that hard to understand.Enrico_Misso wrote:I've seen more AFL games than Baldock,
So therfore I must be a better judge than The Doc
Why is Holmesby a better judge about goose. Is it because he knows who played in 1901?

You're probably right, I'm not that much of a tragic (probably due to living in SA most of my life ), but it doesn't make my opinion any less credible than some so-called footy experts IMO, as I'm observant and able to form an opinion not clouded by emotion...plus I'm not paid to make s*** up.stinger wrote:degruch wrote:Who knows?stinger wrote:well...you are just showing your ignorance....once again.........who's surprised.... ...only joking mate......bet you are too......degruch wrote:Never heard of him. Besides, with no Saints supporters within 800kms of me all my life, I've been able to make up my mind for myself, without the press, my mates, my family or footy forums to taint my opinion...until now!

well.....sorry...but he has credibility with me...whereas most journos don't.........but then again plugga also has zero credibility with me....as has many posters on here.......i do however respect certain posters opinions.......for example....marto and saints rising ..the jury's still out on you.

The jury? How many voices have you got in your head? Hey, I've learnt a bit from posters opinions on this forum, and I'd sure hope it has worked the other way around too, can't write anyone off 100% of the time...even p66 and RF have written stuff on here I've agreed with! Once or twice, even you!!! Don't write anyone off all the time sting.stinger wrote:degruch wrote: You're probably right, I'm not that much of a tragic (probably due to living in SA most of my life ), but it doesn't make my opinion any less credible than some so-called footy experts IMO, as I'm observant and able to form an opinion not clouded by emotion...plus I'm not paid to make s*** up.

Anyway, I'm not comparing my 'credibility' to anyone...wouldn't be wasting my time on here if I was. I'm not 'footy smart' (or vain) enough to start a blog about it, I'm happy to be a stand alone expert when it comes to 'my' club (just ask me) and I don't need to check that with anyone else.

Well...occasionally...when he does form an opinion, instead of counteracting posters opinions with annoying one-liners (*casts line*).stinger wrote:degruch wrote:The jury? This thread is very clear to me.
The people that idolise players and the romanticism of all things St Kilda can't let Goose, Bally, or even Maxy go....fair enough...
The people that regularly watched Goose play and train last year have let us know their opinion, and all of them seem to agree, he is struggling....
I still remember him before the last injury, I thought he was struggling big time then, shame, he had loads to offer early on, I still think CHF was his go...but I will never know....
From my eyes, he could never hold down a key back position for us, plays too small and too clumsy for my liking....
I wish him luck at the Lions though, same for X....

Think in all honesty a fair assessment and appraisal of whether a good or bad decision was made should be done at years' end or even next year.
Hypothetical - Goose BOG rounds 1 - 4, then round 5 season ending, possibly career ending injury?
NAB Cup/Escort Cup/Ansett Cup form = encouraging but not the form to base an entire decision on.
