McEvoy to FF and Kossie to ruck?

Post: # 892112Post sainterinsydney »

I think we should consider putting Kossie in the ruck and McEvoy at FF. Kossie isn't a bad tap ruckman, whereas McEvoy is a good kick and strong grab. Kossie could do better in the ruck, whilst McEvoy could do better at FF. This could possibly fix the Kossie situation at the moment.

Definetly worth considering. Kosi's best work is usually when he is floating around the ground and Macca definetly has the attributes to play FF.

One flaw in your plan is that Kois's ruckwork is not that flash...unless he has suddenly improved.

Id play Kosi at Sandy next weekend, I think all he needs is another run. He is a big, big boy and needs to get the miles under his belt.

Play him across half back or in the ruck and then line him up 30m from goal against the Swannies.

As mentioned in another thread, this is a perfect chance to give Kosi a role in the backline where he won the Rising Star.

Give him a go as a loose man across Half Back to give him his confidence back.

He is a great kick and can sweep across the packs to mark in defence.

Use McEvoy and Gardiner rotating from the ruck to FF.

BJ can also play as a wild card at FF.

If you want someone in the ruck...Gardi, King or Ben though yes an occasional run is fine for Kosi.

If you want a loose man in defence then BJ, Gwilt, Ray, Raph (though probably injured) , Geary, Demspter. Remember that to play this role today that you need to be very fit as you have to flood up and back and perform your zone role. A bit of toe helps too as it allow syou to fill space, get back to contests etc.

Agree Kosi deserves a chance ahead of Rhys in Round 1.
But I am sure there were plenty of people like me wishing at quarter time yesterday that Rhys was playing so we could give him a go instead of the lame efforts Kosi was putting in.

Also as said in the same thread Kosi is too slow and unco for half back.

the modern game doesn't really allow for any player to be slow and unco...

whatever position they hide in....

Yep. Agree.

Is it just me or does he look lighter?

Has he been running a lot in preseason?

He isnt allowed to play next week. Kosi isnt going to the backline and isnt going to ruck. We have enough ruckmen. If Kosi cant play forward then he is gawn.

ross has played him in the ruck before. i don't see why it can't happen again if his form at ff continues to be unimpressive and someone can do it better. he provides something around the ground.

Is he better in the ruck than Gardiner and now Mc Evoy? I doubt it and as bad as kosi is going those 2 arent better than Kosi in the forward line so apart from 5 minute burts it isnt going to happen.

under the current structure we have the option of rotating any of those three through full forward and should take it if kosi is not getting into games.

there are other possibilities, of course. bj is one. stanley coming through is another.

ff is one of several problems apparent in the pre-season. another is zac's form. another is injuries to key players such as lenny and fisher. hopefully things will improve once the real stuff starts.

I like the idea of developing a 3 way ruck-forward set up with Gardi, Macca & Kosi. Gardi & Macca to do the bulk of the ruck work with Kosi having the occasional run !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

At this stage in his career, Kosi is basically a FF or nothing IMO. There is no problem with his being used in the ruck as a bit of variety: especially if things aren't happening for him in the game.

McEvoy is also a ruck. He certainly hasn't convinced me in any of the games that he has played that he is a potential quality full forward.

Kosi doesn't have to do a lot in every game: his main job is to provide an alternative target to Riewoldt, and - in that role - to take a few marks and slot home an average of 2-3 goals a game. If he delivers that, he is doing well.

I remember the likes of Fraser Gehrig and others before him looking pretty clumsy in the early part of the year. It takes a fair while for these big, slow moving guys to hit their straps.

Kosi was definitely one of our worst in the pre-season, but let's not write him off yet please.

This forum amazes me some time: don't even think of suggesting that the coach isn't 150% perfect - even when he does stuff up (eg, Ball in the GF) - but please say whatever you like, no matter how derogatory, about those players who are currently whipping boys: Kosi, Dawson, Raph, whoever.

Gee I'd like to see some of you lot forced to spend four quarters in the middle of a forward 50 in an AFL game with 6'6" monsters smashing into you, whacking you across the face, jumping all over your back and "accidentally" falling or treading on you when you hit the ground.

It'd be interesting to see how critical (in at least two sense of the word) you would be after that.

One small light at the end of the tunnell.
Cahill kicked 6 for Sandy on Saturday. Maybe the future FF. That is what he was recruited as anyway.
