Maguire's game against Hawthorn yesterday was described as "superb"

Too slow, surely!
Hes not a full forward either though!!!!!! just imagine. we have all seen the magic of kossie at his best if he was put at CHB or Wing he would be so good with agility and ability to take big marks, but he is not too slow for full back because he is managing to play full forward and beating full backs. he wont have an advantage because he is slightly slower but he is skill ful enough and thats what we need. DAWSON is being an idiot atm. hes put on 5 kilo's and now things he is a tough guy who can now use the tactic of using his body to win the ball, DAWSON UR AN IDIOT, if he just went for the ball, which he did in his prime last year he would do 'better'

We are seriously going to start this already?

Call when the real stuff starts, then we can judge him.

it has been around this time that "Kosi" will headbutt a fence, rip a hamstring or belt someone.

I'd sack him. By the way how did all the other players go last pre season?

Anyone know the answer to this?

Have heard many times he was ill, but haven't heard what type of illness it was. Must have been bad to lose the amount of weight he lost considering he has susposedly put a lot of what he lost back on. Would hate to have seen him before.

Forget this targetting on Zac, the really serious problem yesterday was the inability of the backline to clear the ball out.
They kicked and handpassed it around between themselves until they gave away a turnover.

Part of the problem was not being able to find a downfield target to kick to, often going sideways without even bothering to look downfield first.
And part lacking the confidence to run at the Bulldogs zone, safe in the knowledge that a target would present itself at an opportune time.

Did anyone else notice how the Bulldogs ocnsistently played on quickly, safe in the knowledge that everyone downfield would break simultaneously thus presenting multiple targets.

Who would both be better than Goose, so would Shanahan and Frawley

Really who by?
The Age didn't even mention him nor was he named in the Lions best.

Nothing against the bloke, I really hope he goes all right, but some of this stuff is becoming legendary.....

By his coach no less...he wasn't singled out especially (the 'superb' quote was directed to both Goose and Raines, with Staker chucked in for good measure). Nothing like pumping up your own guys, especially when they're on the comeback trail. Hardly an unbiased appraisal.

Unbiased you say....as i say good luck to him...I would be very happy to see him on Kosi or Roo when we play them

I think Zac won the battle against Barry in the second and third quarters, went for the ball and kept him to nothing for those quarters.

Personally I think the error was that he continued to play on Barry after the collision with Hahn and Barry late in the third, which I might add was a fantastic effort by Zac IMO.

Pretty obvious the fitness staff had him running through the third quarter break as they were obviously not sure if he was up for it, no fluke Baz kicked 5 of his 7 in the last term.

Delighted for Maguire, shattered for us.

Would love to see him and Xavier Clarke turn their careers around.

Both great St Kilda people who would have loved to have stayed.

Hearing him kick on - having just seen Hall monster Dawson - makes me just a little sick in the stomach.

I still believe we should have kept both for insurance, but, hmmm, we'll see what happens in the long run. Maybe we'll turn out ok.

I was there. It wasn't.

Not bad, but he's slow and immobile and he was surrounded by players because both teams went pretty defensive.

Superb in the context of a bloke who's lucky to be walking? Maybe.

But in a broader sense, not really close.

The kid is either way down in confidence or doesn't care. You can just tell the difference with his body language etc. from last year to these praccy matches. I'm gonna go with low confidence just because he is just relying on watching the man and not reading the play enough himself. The amount of times he had his back to the ball with a arm against Barry was too many. And i'm not sure why he plays like that other than he is not confident in his own ability.
His low confidence could come down to his illness and maybe some media scrutiny over the GF, but I'm backing him into the H&A season. He may not be in the top 5 FB's in the league, but he's still decent and the best we have.
