This is no slight on stanely but one interesting piece of play summed up how important roo is and how lucky we have such a fantastic player.

The ball was deep in our pocket and I think it was baker who had it. Stanley lead hard to half back but got no service so he slowly drifted back up the wing, clogging it up and not allowing the runners to gain some space to create options.

Rewind to times last year and roo would make that lead, sprin back and either re-lead (after freeing up the space for other players) or lead to the other side of the ground to reate a switch of play.

The problem alot of the other sides have is that they don't have that "get out of jail free" option in the class of roo and therefore either slow the play down and then kick it long or play around with it in the backline trying to create an option. This falls into the trap of the good defensive teams who stick to their zone defence.

You may be on to something there. I agree, Roo is pretty important to our structure.

Last night may show he is very good tactically and with the game plan and aerobically but it also showed that we could kick some goals without him, Fremantle weakensses aside...structure good, midfield kicking goals, Lynch, Stanley couple each as big men - nice!

Overall I thought it was good for our depth and flexibility.
But how do you measure it all against Freo's shocking skills?

Freo's shocking skills are about the same as Peter Garrett's, they should be sacked from the AFL.

I think Mark Harvey was a bit shocked at how bad Freo are....

I think Kevin Sheedy was extremely shocked at how bad Mark Harvey is..

Freo performance was poor Sat Night but in defence had 6- 8 of their best players out.............

played Sunday twighlight week before and flew back to Perth Late Sun or early Monday.......then played again after 6 day break (ALSO HAD TO FLY BACK TO MELBOURNE AGAIN)

No wonder they struggled.

We were good but Fremantle's draw very tough hence the resting and management for so many.

Peter Garrett's with the AFL?

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
