Peake, St Kilda's almost forgotten onball trade additition

Post: # 882751Post SainterK »

All the best to Peake for tomorrow night, he certainly appears to have the endeavour to make the most of this opportunity. I hope he settles in at the Saints and becomes a solid contributor for us.

BRETT Peake, St Kilda's almost forgotten onball trade addition, is in the squad for tomorrow night's NAB Cup game against Collingwood.
Peake was among the standout performers in the Saints' intraclub hitout at Moorabbin on Friday.

The former Fremantle flyer was recruited, along with the sacked Andrew Lovett, to provide more pace to the midfield.

yeah, just watch your head if you're sitting on the bottom deck of the stands - with those two blazing away the ball could go anywhere.

Dennis Commettii said last Friday night that he thinks Peake may well "embarrass" the Dockers (by blitzing at the Saints). I found that pretty encouraging as Commetti knows the Dockers inside out.

Funny how the guy that keeps his head down, integrates into the team, trains hard in pre-season, is the one that gets little or no notice or coverage.

Well done Brett. Looking forward to cheering you on this year.

All very well and good, but since when is Peake an "onballer"?

Or does the word just mean the same thing as "footballer" nowadays................. :? :?

one would presume he would be part of the rotation that we now have.
eg: grammy chips bj moving thu the middle if required??

id love to see him on the wing (i pretty much consider the wing an onball position myself)
hope he has a great first game 8-)

I am hoping he will, in fact I'm sure he will. Peake was a good player in a lousy side, so I was pretty excited we picked him up...fingers crossed!

I think this explains it. I had always thought of an "onballer" as someone who runs around the field following the ball.

If wingers can be onballers, then I guess everyone is an onballer except for designated forwards and defenders.

Peake was once considered hot property, but his career stagnated at Freo. Hard to tell if that was the team or the player, but we've had some success with these types, most recently with Ray. A lot of people were impressed with his showing at the intrasquad. I wasn't overly impressed, but I did miss the first half.

He's a lot like Grammy with his kicking. Quite capable of going the journey and quite capable of missing horribly. He loves to run with it and he's quite capable defensively. I'd have to agree with MB - he's not an onballer. At least not any more than somebody like Gram or Ray is. He'd be right down the list of players we'd use in the centre. He's not very good in contested situations.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

Yep always had time for Peake, HB, W, HF, not onball I would think
a major runner. Hope he does really well. Quite solid build too - only thing he's a bit shorter than I thought

i guess
im just remembering my illustrious football career ( Image )
and playing on a wing and pretty much being at every ball up.
its not exactly the same role as say lenny or what bally used to do (in and under) but kinda the same.
thats the way i see it anyway

i actually havent seen alot of him play as freo wernt exactly one of my fav sides to watch
but i know he has some pace and seems to kick alright
im interested to see how he goes on fri (along with a lot of others)
interstaters dont get to see alot of the fringe players or younger guys coming thru....so its always good come early nab cup rounds
ive booked the nite off and cant wait
obviously wanna win
but in all honesty im not fussed if we drop it it
as loing as those playing get a good run and come out injury free

Well if an outside mid is still a mid...then he is an onballer.

He may play HBF as well.

Most likely he will be part of a super-midfield rotation seeng the mids rotating through the midfield as well as HFF and HBF...

G'day

I am so pleased we are talking about players actually playing, and not the other stuff. Go Peake, I say!

I don't really know him, but any Saint has a special place in my heart!

The thing about Peake is that he plays well in a good side.

He was 3rd in Freo's B&F when they made the Prelim Final a few years back (can't believe they ever made a Prelim!). As we are a quality outfit, I'm sure he'll play well!

Looking forward to seeing you play Peakey!

Seeing as what's happened to Lovett, do you think that Peake could be our Great White Hope?

I don't believe I said that, and I guarantee I won't be able to get away with it.

Just joking everyone.

I bet he is stoked that Lovett got the arse.

Opened up a nice spot for him now.

If he can take it.

Where out of interest was he originally drafted from?
