What kids?

Their first pick was Luke Ball. They didn't have another pick until 62.
Indeed. Their 'lesser lights' then.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Agree. We need to fast track this bloke whilst at the same time being patient (I know that sounds contradictory but it isn't)

The NAB Cup's not the be all and end all and it's a good chance to get some experience into TW. His inclusion into the game is unlikely to affect our chances given the extended interchange bench including the subs (which RL has already mentioned as a role for Tommy at this stage)

Looking forward to watching Steven, Geary and Armitage this year.

Paul Cahill has come in for Michael Gardiner - would be interesting to see how he goes if he gets a game. He's slipped under a lot of our radars in the past year.

Buddy, this is a practice match.

Any player, rookie or otherwise is NAB cup ready!

Spot on, saintspremiers.

Even the home and away season is practice for the finals.

It's all about getting to that last Saturday in September and even then there are no guarantees as we all know. Let's take what we learned in 2009 and use it to do the job this year. NAB Cup, SCHMAB Cup.

....but I'm still going and I can't wait.

PS. Didn't know his name was Buddy. Almost sounds a little patronising

St Kilda
2. Steven King, 3. Jack Steven, 4. Clint Jones, 5. Ben McEvoy, 6. Zac Dawson, 11. Leigh Montagna, 12. Nick Riewoldt, 13. Adam Schneider, 14. Jarryn Geary, 15. Michael Gardiner, 18. Brendon Goddard, 19. Sam Gilbert, 20. David Armitage, 21. Nick Heyne, 22. Farren Ray, 23. Justin Koschitzke, 25. Sam Fisher, 27. Jason Blake, 28. Rhys Stanley, 30. Brett Peake, 32. Andrew McQualter, 33. James Gwilt, 36. Tommy Walsh, 37. Leigh Fisher, 38. Will Johnson, 39. Alistair Smith, 44. Stephen Milne, 45. Luke Miles, 49. Steven Gaertner

MY SIDE
B: Geary, Dawson, Miles
HB: Ray, Fisher, Gilbert
C: Peake, Armitage, Montagna
HF: Heyne, Goddard, Schneider
F: Milne, Riewoldt, Gwilt
R: McEvoy, Steven, Jones

I: Blake, Smith, Johnson, McQualter, Stanley, Fisher

Subs: King, Walsh

Not to play: Koschitzke, Gardiner, Gaertner.

NOTES:

Top heavy side, a lot of talls, but it's all about development.
In saying that though I am not they'd pick all 4 ruckmen.

I reckon rest Gardiner (given he is the most precious commodity of the ruckmen IMO)

Koschitzke maybe to miss due to Ross Lyon saying last week that those who missed the Intraclub match would be unlikely to play this game. (Although mini missed as well).

Stanley to perhaps play half a game then get subbed for King.

McEvoy to take the main mantle.

Steven and Armo to start in square, let the boys go.

Very tall bench, but some flexibility on the ground in terms of runners.

Geary, Ray, Peake, Heyne etc to add some flexibility.
Pies a good midfield but not all that quick so might not be too bad.

Let's have a look at Miles again in defence.

Goddard, half forward, always wanted him there, although ideally not at centre half forward, preferably on a flank, but in this game seems a viable option

Overall, solid side, missing a few cogs but looking like a decent side more then capable of winning. But the result inconsequencial, develop the style and the kids, and if we win, bonus!

All this merely my oppinion of course

Looks like a pretty good team to me, I wasn't expecting Riewoldt to play to be honest.

that's because he was injured for nine weeks and played 12 of his 13 games at sandy reserves.

our squad is significantly less experienced than collingwood's:

0 games (8): Cahill, Gaertner, Heyne, Johnson, Miles, Smith, Stanley, Walsh
1-20 games (3): Armitage, McEvoy, Steven
21-50 games (4): Dawson, Geary, Gwilt, Jones
51-100 games (5): Fisher L, Gilbert, McQualter, Peake, Ray
101-200 games (8): Blake, Fisher S, Goddard, Koschitzke, Milne, Montagna, Riewoldt, Schneider
201+ games (1): King

0 games (0):
1-20 games (6): Beams, Dawes, Macaffer, McCarthy, Reid, Sidebottom
21-50 games (6): Brown N, Buckley, Goldsack, Toovey, Wellingham, Wood
51-100 games (5): Cloke, O'Brien, Pendlebury, Shaw, Thomas
101-200 games (8): Ball, Davis, Didak, Johnson, Jolly, Maxwell, Medhurst, Swan
201+ games (4): Brown L, Lockyer, O'Bree, Prestigiacomo

nine to their twelve with over 100 games, and eight to their zero with no games! worth keeping this in mind when we inevitably have a disappointing loss.

but for mine that doesn't matter - i'm excited to see the kids.

Has L Brown really played 200 games?

Dont think we should play either King or Gadiner unless they really need the run, at their age I would rather see them play late in the NAB or in the last practice match we play.

Maybe this year?

Gwilt, Armo, McEvoy, Geary..this is your time!!

Yes this game is all about seeing the kids, but its also about seeing if the above players, who are now either our of or breaking out of "kid" status, can take on responible roles against seasoned opposition

Wouldnt it be great to see the tag "exciting youngster" attached to one of our young' uns?? God its been too long.

Even a win tomorrow night would be a little hollow if its done on the back of Roo kicking a bag, or Joey getting 35 touches, or CJ keepng his opponent quiet. We already know they can do that

A loss tomorrow night would be, IMO, significantly more dissapointing if comes with phrases like "St Kildas young players failed to make any impression" and the above four players share a dozen touches and a solitary goal.

very good point. i'd love to see a performance from a couple on the "0 games" list, especially heyne, miles, stanley. and performances are really required from armo, mcevoy, steven, geary, gwilt, peake - even l fisher - if they want a leg up on a spot this year.

let's hope this pressure makes some diamonds...
