Saints in the Superbowl
For those who are missing the saints during the off season - the New Orleans Saints play in the super bowl on Sunday night (monday - Oz time).
New Orleans have a similar history to our beloved Saints and are playing in their first superbowl in franchise history (44 years). I'm currently holidaying in the US and watched my first full game of grid iron two weeks ago when the Saints won the divisional championship game with a field goal in extra time to qualify for the super bowl - i'm now hooked!
The similarities to the AFL saints 09 season are uncanny, they too almost had a perfect season until dropping their last few games. They were out played in the penultimate game but scraped through in the last few seconds of the game (remember St. Nick saving the saints in the prelim) and they are up against a team who has already won a superbowl in the decider.
Hopefully the superbowl doesn't turnout like the AFL GF in 2009 and will set a precedent for the real saints to step up up in 2010!

yeah there are some similarities between our 2009 season and theirs.
But the saints defence is average.
Go to youtube and watch America's game or Hard Knocks and you will get hooked.
I hope the saints win. More for New Orleans than anything. Remember that the whole city was almost wiped off the map a few years back..
Whodat.

The "whodat" is a reference to their 2009/2010 catchcry...
The whodat army.

The 'whodat' chant has a long, long history in the US - a character in Vaudeville, using blackface, was called "Whodat" about a hundred years ago. Black people weren't legally allowed on stage, from what I've been told, and white actors would put on black faces and play black people, portraying them as stupid... this is stuff people over here told me after the controversy over the Red Faces skit last year. That's why they object so much to black face - because of the laws that prevented black actors from being on the stage. Anyway, that's what people told me...

very happy with the result. having a flutter on the saints would have paid some good money amongst people betting on the game. the onside kick to start the second half was so ballsy. and drew brees is incredible. great stuff
sbs' panel was so much better with ed wyatt hosting alongside, big sav, collin scotts and damien lovelock.
the only intelligent thing andrew maher said during one hd's coverage. wow, they did their best to butcher it. a panel of inane people - dave hughes, steve carfino etc...Bernard Shakey wrote:MVP should go to head coach Sean Payton.
