Ok, that makes me feel better about our numbers, 80 at the Cocktail Party, 120 at kids clinic (searing heat I might add). Also rugby mentality.
On a side note the Qld AFL people may as well be called the Lions. They have no respect for the other teams, not that that is any surprise to us Qlders. Can't wait for the Gold Coast team to start and take some wind out of their sails.

Adelaide had roughly 50 at the cocktail party and I reckon maybe 80 kids at the kids clinic.
Players in attendance were McEvoy, Stanley, Cahill & Simpkin - a very tall group of players !. Was interesting to talk to a group of non established players - gave an interesting perspective on what its like to get drafted and the work required to fight their way into the team via Sandy.

Sam F apparantly had to get a needle in the back and wasnt able to board the plane. Nothing serious we were assured.
Players spoke of the constant need to work on their fitness - still a big difference in fitness between TAC and AFL and they all struggled with the workload in their first year. Big Ben mentioned he got no favours being a big bloke - he was expected to do the same amount of runnng as the rest of the group.
Despite all 3 looking like they didnt have a kilo of fat between them, all were very conscious of the skinfolds - this was obviously a big thing for all of them. Dietitians were all over them. Except Rhys Stanley who apparantly can eat almost whatever he wants because he needs the extra weight.
Tom Simpkin has added something like 10kgs of almost pure muscle since being drafted and the club still wanted him to put on another 2. He never played fullback as a junior but spent almost all year at fullback for Sandy seniors. He had 2 great mentors in Max and Maguire and was sad to see both gone. Reckons the club said he was close to being promoted to the senior list but that obviously Zac and Luke Miles had to be promoted in front of him for differing reasons.
Interesting that Cahill and Stanley both mentioned that VFL was faster than SANFL with more set plays, whereas SANFL had bigger bodies with more seasoned players but the standard of the 2 comps was very similar. It took some time for the Saints & Sandy players to get to know each other and become comfortable with each other.
They also spoke of still being star struck in the changerroms occasionally and also what a great role host families play for first year players who come from interstate.
