R1 2010 team?
Here's my go after the draft:-
B: Blake Dawson Baker
HB: Gilbert Fisher Goddard
C: Gram Dal Santo Montagna
HF: Lovett Riewoldt McQualter
F: Milne Koschitzke Schnieder
R: Gardiner Hayes Jones
Int: King, Ray, Peake, Armitage
Emg: Steven, Clarke, McEvoy
Emg2: Geary, Eddy, Miles, Smith, Dempster, Pattison, et al
In: Lovett, Peake, Armitage
Out: Ball, Clarke, Dempster
Everything else appears to be just depth management.

I doubt it very much about Sandy. They have lost plenty of their best players so unless our guys do much better than last year they will really struggle next season.Con Gorozidis wrote:looks spot on to me.
good bloody team too. will take some beating.
sandy round 1 team will be very handy too. Sandy will also give the flag a nudge IMO.

I don't like having 3 smalls in our forward line (Mcqualter, schneider and Milne) - that's half our forward line as smalls.axcellence wrote:

Having 3 genuine small forwards doesn't work well in the finals ( it might work in the H&A)- our small forwards get outmuscled in finals and were easy pickings for the stronger Cat defenders- they aren't built for finals like Ablett or Chapman who are super strong and close to 90 kg.
We need to change the old forward structure and bring in 2 medium sized players and more muscle - lose 2 smalls.

i'd have McEvoy in for King
Clarke in for Peake
Geary in for Milne
Raph on HBF and Goddard on HFF and mini in the pocket

have nothing personal against Milne... has been a fantastic player over the decade and IMO the best forward pocket of the era.
me personally, i just think that we've gone as far as we can go with #44. He's what 30 now. Even with all the support, I don't think ne1 feels comfortable with him lining up in our next big finals game.
we could play him for another year or 2, get reasonable returns then see his career generally fade out or now (and IMO) develop the next young kid who can offer more to take his spot... Geary, Eddy or Steven fit the bill nicely IMO

There is a saying in footy that you're only as good as your last match. Milney's was one to forget.

Well going by the OP team - this would leave a Sandy 15 of
Steven, Clarke, McEvoy, Stanley, Heyne, Simpkin, Johnson, Winmar, Geary, Eddy, Miles, Smith, Dempster, Pattison, Lynch (+ 7 Sandy Players + Tommy Walsh) .
Looks fairly handy to me. All 15 are fairly mature players capable of playing seniors AFL footy with an even mix of forwards backs mids and rucks...... (Only Winmar + Walsh are unknown quantities).

Not my choice of 22, but what I think Lyon is likely to actually do.
Peake to free up BJ to go forward and be 2nd option to prevent Roo from being triple teamed and give Gram , Lovett, Pekae etc someone else to kick to at HF.
Ross wont start Arma, he'll start with Clarke and look at form.
v Sydney , I think he'll go with King but only if King is fully fit.

I hear you. He will certainly need to show something pre season in the NAB. But I think Ross will want to test him out at the start of the season. That is why he was traded. Unlikely to test him in the magoos.Dr Spaceman wrote:I hope like hell Ross can create a great story with Peake however I can't believe how many people on various posts already have him in the 22.

I reckon Walsh will be in the top 22 round 1 next year.
Big call I know. It's clear the club wants a 3rd option up forward that is atheltic enough to play big, but still tackle, chase and harasses. Had max not been injured in round 1, Gilbert would've been that third, and next year I think Walsh will come through and be that man.
Had the athletic and sporting 'ball smarts' already. Just needs to pick up the specific AFL skills, and the ball movement, which to such a talent individual, I think he will be upto par come round 1.
