3 and 4 - Big numbers!
If I were a new Saint I would love to get my hands on either of these digits.
I must admit that I dont know the extended history of the numbers but you would want either wouldn't you?

I think Peake can have 17... id prefer to see one of Armo, Gears, Jones or the like get one of those numbers...
Our current youth who could possibly change their numbers would be:
David Armitage - Currently #20
Paul Cahill - 41
Zac Dawson - 43
Robert Eddy - 40
Jarryn Geary - 42
Sam Gilbert - 19
Clinton Jones - 38
Tom Lynch - 29
Andrew McQualter - 32
Luke Miles 45
Alistair Smith - 39
Jack Steven - 34
Also:
Nicholas Winmar
Jesse Smith
Adam Pattison
Will Johnson
Some of these players will probably opt to keep their numbers (Gilbo, McQ), and some havent yet earned a lower number.
So we have numbers 3, 4, 6, 8, 14, 17, (and 20 if Armo changes).
Id like to see Clint in 4 - part of me tells me he is the type of player who could embody the spirit of that number - the concept of hard work and determination and "Saints Footy" which the club is currently focussing on.
Essentially, my list of players who deserve a higher guernsey are:
- Clint Jones (Maybe 4)
- Zac Dawson (8??)
- Jarryn Geary (6)
- Robert Eddy (14)
- David Armitage (3)

3 you forgot Paul Cronin, jim Krakour, X Clarke
4- Paul Morwood, Joel Smith,
Unfortunately the club has never grasped the opportunity to have one "elite" number. Had a chance when Breen retired ( first 300 game player passed down from Doc arguably bets ever) but gave it to Paul Morwood. Trued to revive it with Joel Smith ( bad character judgement there) . Thomo gave his all for it but it is tarnished.
Perhaps pick number 70 and you can start from scratch.

Who gets which numbers is always REALLY important to me.
I'd like to see Jack Steven in 3 -- for the small and courageous reasons outlined above. Maybe Armo.
Someone special needs to be promoted to 4. I've been thinking Gilbo. Someone suggested Montagna, which I think would be an excellent choice.
I'd be very happy to see Zac Dawson in 6, if he wanted to move from 43. (But not in 8)
8 for me has to go to Clint Jones -- courageous, desperate, loyal, blonde, unco -- a worthy and appropriate successor to Max.
Steven, Armo or even Geary could take 14, just to remind the previous occupant that he is replaceable.

joey has to stay in 11. that's like saying lenny should be something other than 7. for mine it's important that we fill 4.avid wrote:Who gets which numbers is always REALLY important to me.

2 schools of thought- just numbers and numbers stand for something.
Team sport argument doesn't sit with me as there are plenty of team sports around the world whcih retire numbers either all time or period of time.
I actually like the Richmond concept of the captain having a certain number.
Whether high or low each player still has the opportunity to make a statement for that number and hopefully feel compelled to represent the number with pride as others before may have.

Throw in Andrew Thompson who won a Best and Fairest in number 4. 200 game player.borderbarry wrote:Greatest number 4. Darrell Baldock. Premiership Captain CHF. Coach.
Then Barry Breen. Premiership player. CHF. Captain?
Also worn by Plugger for latter part of his career. FF.
Should be worn by a big forward (Maybe Tommy Walsh?)

Make it happen!
It can't hurt to have players who must combine well in close proximity.
Riewoldt 12 next to Schneider 13.
Of course the team menace must be kept at the other end of the room, Milne 44.

I don't like the idea of new players getting the lower numbers, I think you should have to earn them.
