but at the end of 2010 the saints will have outstanding facilities at seaford. so doubt that he will have much to complain about. he still left North when they were about to move into great facilities as well! it may not be about the facilities but the physios. doctors and rehabvacuous space wrote:I wonder how Jesse himself feels, given what he said after leaving North and given the state of our club's facilities. I'm sure he'll say all the right things tomorrow. You can't help but think it probably wasn't his preferred destination.
Hopefully we can get him on the field. He can certainly play when he's fit.

Given our success last year dealing with soft tissue injuries and having Misson on board I'm sure he can't be too disappointed about joining us.vacuous space wrote:I wonder how Jesse himself feels, given what he said after leaving North and given the state of our club's facilities. The Dorks didn't seem to do too well on the injury front last year either despite their elite training facilities.
I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.

Using ALL of my medical expertise (absolutely zero), I suspect that his hamstring problems came about as the result of a changing running style that came about as a result of his ankle problems.joffaboy wrote:But is he fit?
Can we fix his hammy's?
Or is our newfound soft tissue fitness a complete fluke as RF would have us believe?
Puting that horrible word "IF" in here;
IF we can get his body right he could end up being the bargain of the Draft !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

I thought it was a different Jesse Smith that went to Salesian, could be wrong thoughtwirlyhair wrote:Taught Jesse when he was at Salesian Sunbury. Yeah couldn't be happier, I never had him in our equations I thought he would be gone by pick 32!!Spinner wrote:Really happy with this - never even considered it.
He is a gun, the only question is injuries.
Better than any other prospect at 60.
Good Work!
He will get his body right and he WILL be a gun!!

Always a risk taking someone with such a history of soft tissue injury.
You can hardly call this bloke a gun since he has hardly been on the park apart from one good season.
I guess Misson has the track record though.

I sincerely hope so. We'd be goals better off if BJ was playing forward and Smith was fit and doing his thing across half back.Winmarvellous wrote:More to the point, does this free up BJ to play the utility role anywhere on the field we can exploit a weakness
The wraps on Smith have been huge since he was first taken under the father son rule and he is like getting another Goddard, talent wise and also in the roles he plays across half back, or on the wing.
We wouldn't even need him to get 100% for him to be a great pick-up, if Stuart Dew helping Hawthorn win a flag is anything to go by.
Here's an article from when he asked to be traded, where they said he "is considered by some to be the most talented player on North's list.":

Here are a bunch more articles on him:

YOU GET WHAT YOU SETTLE FOR.
Gee I dont know. I hope he lasts. NMFC genuinely upset at having lost him.
would have to be smarter than clarke (not hard). just hope he can last. ruddy hell, what does he need, acupuncture? what is it? what does he need to ensure his ankle's are stable? ruddy hell i dont know. at least it's not his knee's. the way NMFC were they were struggling for tape.
Misso will strap him up and do a bit of acupuncture. he'll be sweet.

Probably also saw the writing on the wall.joffaboy wrote:What were his injuries - does anyone know?yipper wrote:Jesse Smith is a gun - an elite level player no doubt. He left North blaming their facilities or lack therof for his constant injury battles. Ironically he is now fit, but still chose to leave North to seek a fresh start. He is a very good pick-up for us. Will benefit from having Dave Misson looking after him.
Apparently a 1st Round dp if fit.
Despite all of Scott's hype, North Melbourne is down the ladder and destined to be there for some time.
He may also have suspected North Melbourne in desperation would use him before his body had recovered from further injury.

hes a friggin gun. im stoked to have him.
wayyyyyyyy too early to write someone off at 22 over injuries. bodys take time to adjust to all the training at senior level. if we are smart we can get him up. not saying north arent. but sometimes it just gets frustrarting for player and club and they get sick of each other because injuries are stressful on both parties. i reckon we may have a friggin star. heck hes future captain material.
