Its a pity we don't have more early picks.
Whats the math now guys?
How many are we going to draft?
as we didnt trade for draft selection position, you would have to say anything that is available by the time we get involved will be making up the numbers.
Batnoe ... pretty sure Ablett has signed to play with GC
Joel McDonald from brissy most likely will be gone.
Feel sorry for Leigh, he was a great allrounder, and thought he still had some currency in the team
AS for the pretty harsh list clogger tag, how many of the pick ups we get next month will be just making up the numbers anyway. Can anyone remember Begley?
No Luke Ablett from Sydney(Garys cousin) Nathan Ablett (garys bro) signed with GC.
So Luke Ablett was delisted from the swans, a very handy player for the style we play

Does this mean that we now get an extra National/Pre-Season Draft pick and an additional Rookie pick? I can't keep up with all the changes to the Draft Rules !!

Didn't Brooks not only get selected with a first round pick at Port, but also crossed to the Saints in exchange for a first round pick?ThePunter wrote:Leigh Fisher was a late draft pick in a draft where St Kilda were reluctant to make many picks (only taking Goddard, Matt Ferguson and Leigh Fisher). Interesting that it's been confirmed by Kennelly himself that St Kilda approached him...

Maybe just retirements next year? If we win the flag I'd be pretty certain that Gardiner and Baker will go. Along with King who's gonna retire end of next year regardless.Batnoe wrote:We now have no one to get rid of next year?!!
I would assume when we delist 3 next year there may be a few hard luck stories also, but party cause of the mass delistings this year
Plus I'm sure s*** will pop up. You woulda been considered mad to say that Ball and Goose would be delisted at the start of this year.

Yes he was taken by Port at pick 15 - spent most of the year in the SANFL reserves I think - yet somehow he became worth pick 8 when traded to the Saints (which became 6 when Carlton were penalized)SydneySainter wrote:Didn't Brooks not only get selected with a first round pick at Port, but also crossed to the Saints in exchange for a first round pick?ThePunter wrote:Leigh Fisher was a late draft pick in a draft where St Kilda were reluctant to make many picks (only taking Goddard, Matt Ferguson and Leigh Fisher). Yes, it could have been that the club did not have sufficient room left in the 2009 cap to pay out their 2010 salaries.Mr Magic wrote:Might also be due to Ball deciding to leave, opening up some salary cap for the Club to pay out Fisher and Howard's 2010 contracts?
The club could have been reserving money in the 2010 cap to give to Luke Ball, that can now be used for two extra senior picks.
Now Ball is gone there is money in the 2010 cap for a pick to replace Ball and then another senior pick.
But then they needed to delist and pay out L Fisher to activate that pick.
L Fisher then being paid out against the 2010 cap.
Also Ball's departure leaves cash in the player payments budget to take on extra rookies - an extra pick hence Howard's delisting to activate the pick and there may even be hope for Josh Duncan and Ted Widner yet.

Is there any news there? There's a guy on BF claiming he knows Josh and that he hasn't been offered a spot. It seems very strange to turn down what is essentially a free player. What's the deadline for the scholarship kids?ace wrote:...there may even be hope for Josh Duncan and Ted Widner yet.

Somebody pointed that out on the BF thread. You'd think if they'd already informed the kids there wouldn't be any problem with letting the sponsorhip people know. Maybe even the general public. The silence on this is odd.saintbrat wrote: if that guys right someone better tell the sponsorship dept...... check the sponsorship thread- sticky.

I always liked Leigh Fisher. It's a shame his career didn't come out better. It probably would have been different if his hammies had stayed intact

Although rookies don't count against the salary cap they still cost money in salary and overheads.vacuous space wrote:Somebody pointed that out on the BF thread. Last year the Bulldogs did not take their full complement of rookies as their full cost would have blown the clubs financial budget.
Up until last Tuesday, St Kilda had a greater budget than today.
They no longer have to budget on Luke Ball.
Instead they have to budget on 2 new recruits instead (one place created by delisting L Fisher).
Maybe the club will find room in the budget for the former NSW scholarship rookies.
The club has until 1 December to pre-select them.
BUT the kids would have been smart to have nominated for the National Draft if the club had not told them they would be rookied.

I'd still like to know who was the genius who signed up Brad Howard to a 2 year contract a matter of days before the decision was made to cut him from the senior list!!
Leigh Fisher likewise was signed to a long contract at around the same time he fell out of favour with the coach.
Howard, Fisher and, for that matter Fiora: all signed for multi-year contracts when there seemed to be no evidence that other clubs were about to dive in with offers to take them off our hands.
Somebody was clearly a bit trigger-happy with offering contracts at that time. Hopefully the club has learnt something from these experiences.

would become a very good second level plyer in the VFL etc. Decient skills, good overhead and good footy brain. Shame those hammys went so badly because that meant he lost that yard of paceHarveysDeciple wrote:Yeah shades of the Jason Cripps about him, in more ways then one.Milton66 wrote:In my book, Fisher is an amazing inspiration that anyone can learn from.

Yes Fisher has battled with hamstrings and to me that's the only connection.
Cripps was a great player and at his peak was close to Harvey with his evasive skills.
Cripps was better than Harvey with his disposal.
Leigh Fisher had zero evasive skills and IMO was ordinary
Leigh Fisher had hamstring problems but in no way was it the same as Cripps where his hamstrings where tied to the bone of his buttocks.
I really hate comparing players to players that don't really match
and IMO Leigh Fisher is a no body if you are going to compare him to Jason Cripps

Good luck guys
I guess Leigh had something others didn't- He wanted to play for the team he supported and managed to do that despite what some see as deficiencies for several years.
