We can now use up to 4 picks in the National Draft (32, 60, 64, 77).Eastern wrote:Not unexpected.
Does this mean that we now get an extra National/Pre-Season Draft pick and an additional Rookie pick? I can't keep up with all the changes to the Draft Rules !!
We now have 4 picks in the rookie draft .

They were list cloggers. Fisher may have been good for depth, but everyone we have gotten rid of- except Luke Ball, didnt play more than 7 games last year (Max)
So we are not losing much on our last years team... It also alows us to play the kids like Lynch, Steven, Armo, Heyne etc etc
I would imagine we will take a mature age recruit and take 2 other irish players (tommys brother looks more likely this year, than next, plus david Moran)

Thanks for all your efforts guys, and good luck for the future.
Leigh Fisher especially, career somewhat cruelled by injury and bad timing. Played in first 9 games of 04 streak and 08 NAB Cup win.
Also had about 25 possessions in the first half against Hawthorn in rd 8 2007.

In my book, Fisher is an amazing inspiration that anyone can learn from.
He had horrendous hamstrings, but never gave up.
Whilst his footy talents may not equal his courage, he is still a champion IMO.
Good luck Leigh. Sorry to see you go. But at least you gave it 110%.

Yeah shades of the Jason Cripps about him, in more ways then one.Milton66 wrote:In my book, Fisher is an amazing inspiration that anyone can learn from.

Wasn't he a late pick in the Hodge/Ball/Judd draft?saintbrat wrote:not sure when Leigh started at the saints

I remember him playing as a junior - used to play against my youngest son and he was a 'superstar' of the league.
I feel desperately sorry for him that whatever chance he had at making it as an AFL player was severely impacted by those horrendous hamstring problems.

Leigh Fisher was a late draft pick in a draft where St Kilda were reluctant to make many picks (only taking Goddard, Matt Ferguson and Leigh Fisher). We turned Peter Everitt into Barry Brooks, which was, in retrospect, an epic fail.
Anyway, Fisher's debut coincided with the arrival of the young Saints as a force. His first game was a big victory over West Coast, where he had eighteen possessions, five tackles and a goal. He played the final five games that year, including four massive wins and a loss down at Geelong.
After an interrupted pre-season, it took until Round 5 for him to make his 2004 debut. He played in the great win over Brisbane in Round 6, then played every game until Round 9, in which he injured his hamstring.
In 2005, he was given jumper number 6, but didn't play because of his hamstring troubles.
He returned in Round 8, 2006. He played in 45 of St Kilda's next 49 games.
Unfortunately, being not fleet of foot, he was another player for whom the AFL game at the highest level passed by.
Best of luck in your future endeavours, Leigh.

agree with the sentimentSpinner wrote:Wow....
Its a pity we don't have more early picks.
Whats the math now guys?
How many are we going to draft?
as we didnt trade for draft selection position, you would have to say anything that is available by the time we get involved will be making up the numbers.
Batnoe ... pretty sure Ablett has signed to play with GC
Joel McDonald from brissy most likely will be gone.
Feel sorry for Leigh, he was a great allrounder, and thought he still had some currency in the team
AS for the pretty harsh list clogger tag, how many of the pick ups we get next month will be just making up the numbers anyway. Can anyone remember Begley?
