Thanks for the updated information Mr Magic,

I am very interested in being part of this next year. A bit like owning a small share in a race horse, I will be proud to be SaintSational player sponsor. Proud to say I am helping to sponsor our young players, no matter how small my contribution. A great idea and opportunity for those of us who would never be able to afford it on our own.
I'm looking forward to it....

$300 isn't bad when you consider even a basic evening - let alone a dinner- is usually at least $175 per head- so $350 value.

Player groupings from the Club:-

Core Group - cost $1850
King
Ray
McEvoy
Leigh Fisher
Raph
Schneider
Gilbert
Armitage
Dempster
Blake
McQualter
Gwilt
Jones
Dawson
Steven
Eddy
Geary
Miles
Peake
Lovett

Development Group - Cost $1350
HowardZLynch
McGrath
Stanley
Heyne
Smith
Cahill
Simpkin
Gaertner
Tommy Walsh (Intnl Rookie)
Ted Widner (NSW Scholarship Rookie)
Josh Duncan (NSW Scholarsip Rookie)

We ahve first right of refusal for 2010 over any player we sponsored in 2009 UNTIL NOVEMBER 11 when it becomes open to the public.
We can also have forst right of refusal to other players until November 11.

The following players were not sponsored in 2009 so are avaialble to us if we want them:-
King
Schneider
Dempster
Howard
SMith
Cahill
McGrath
Gaertner

Some personal observations:-
We get the same prizes no matter which category we select players from, therefore there is 'more bang for our buck' by taking players from the 'development group'.

Over the past couple of years we have changed players each year.

I personally like the idea of sponsoring players who were previously unsponsored. I'm not comfortable with some players having up to 4 sponsors and others none.

Tommy Walsh, Widner and Duncan as International/NSW rookies have a 'romantic air' about them, IMO.

I now open the discussion up as to who we should sponsor, although I will ask the CLub to 'put a hold' on Tommy Walsh (based on comments on here already) in case we elect to take hiim as one of our own.

Agreed that there is better value for money in the development group, but there are also some great players in the core group. Agree that nearly everyone on here has indicated a interest in Tommy Walsh..so best to ask the club to put a hold on him as you have said. Having him as one of the sponsored players does sound great.

Of the other develpment group I also like Lynch and maybe one of the NSW rookies as you said.
From the Core group I like Ray, Jones, Dawson, Gilbert, Geary - Hell I like most of them from that group lol. I also like the idea of keeping Raph. I can't imagine he'd be too popular for sponsors and I think he gets a really raw deal from supporters as a whole so I like the idea of us offering our support. At the end of the day, I am happy with whatever happens here...just happy to have the opportunity to be involved.

I think we should have a mix, if we can, of previously unsponsored players and also development players. Don't care who... just like the idea of a mix. And it was great that we got so many last time... let's try to keep it up! Go Sainters! Go Saintsational Sponsors!

Price possibilities at around 100 sponsors or "sponsor units" per player
Development Players $1,350
Divided by 100 = $13.50 round to $15

Core Players $1,850
divided by 100 = $18.50 Round to $20

1 development + 1 Core
1,350 + 1,850 = 3,200 divided by 200 - $16

2 development + 2 core
3,200 X 2 = 6,400 divided by 400 - $16

3 development + 1 core
4,050 + 1,850 = 5,900 Divided by 400 = $14.70 Round to $15

1 development + 3 core ( players as per 2009 less Ross T)
1,350 + 5,550 = 6,900 Divided by 400 = $17.25
...................................Divided by 500 = $13.80 round to $15

Note; "Sponsor units"- each $ shares - any one poster can put in as many sponsor units as they wish. this year was $15 per share.

how are my maths this year :?

I cant see any reason why we would not continue to sponsor the players we had last year...and to replace Ross T I would nominate one of

Tom Lynch (Saints fan who prolly read this Forum prior to being drafted)

Tommy Walsh (I think sponsorship by a Fan Forum is a great welcome to the International player in his first season)

Rhys Stanley (cos hes gonna be a cult hero for ages since he won that sprint lol)

Seriously though, monetary issues aside, why would we stop sponsoring Jack Steven fr instance in what could be in breakout year? Raph need all the support he can get in the face of the knobs who slag him all the time. Mini had a fantastic season and Nick Heyne could see senior action also

I've deliberately refrained from posting an opinion on this as this year (hopefully) will be my first involvement in being part of SS sponsorship, so I don't really feel that I have any right at this stage to offer an opinion.
However I hope I'm not out of line in voicing agreement with saint66au and Eastern.

Debi, you have just as much right as anyone else...

From memory some of last years sponsored players won by this site going for a poll....

There is/was no way of knowing just who in fact voted and whether they were actually part of the saintsational sponsored players.

You have a voice and it's most welcomed IMO

I also agree with the mob above ... keep the players we have ... strength through loyalty!!!

OK how much would those 4 players cost + one development player?

I know some may want to replace Raph BUT what we want to do is encourage Raph to bring out his best because if he reaches his potential he can actually be elite. What stood in his way is his body and confidence. The club are getting his body right. We should be supporting his confidence. Ultimately the next step - elite or being traded - is up to Raph.

Just my 2 cents worth and as usual I shall contribute way more than 2 cents!

Four players still existing
Nick= 1 DEVELEP + Raph, Mini, Jack, = 3 CORE
to keep these would be $ $6,900

+ 1 more development - 1,350 =$ 8,250
if divided 100 shares per player - 500 = $ 16.50 per share
if you look for say 120 shares per player so divide by 600 = $13.75 - so continue to round to $15 per share

NOTE: to new prospective sponsors
all players are GROUP sponsored so shares are NOT player specific
so it's ONE IN ALL IN
- not a case of saying- I'll give my $ to share Mini or just for .. etc
In the past posters have donated in ranges from 1 share to 20 shares.

IMO we should go with new players. Just change it up and give other guys a go.

I think we should go with at least one core --> Lynch or Armitage would be my preferences
At least two development --> Walsh and Stanley my picks

Then we can look into more if there still is demand.

Trying to retain the players we have might be hard with 3 core + 1 development.

Oh, and fwiw, I made the banner last season. I already have a template for a new one (a bit different - you'll see :p). And I will randomly decide the order, the allegations last year were ridiculous.

Having said all that stuff on loyalty .... I have just done the calculations and keping the 5 we had ... replacing Ross with Tommy or Rhys would cost $8250 ... and this may be too large an ask! I think this is because Steven and McQualter have moved up to the Core group and all prices have risen!

I think last year we had all development players ... and maybe only Raph was core ... I am sure that Mr. Magic can clarify what was paid last year.

What was common with all these players is that we really want to see them reach the next level and it was our form of encouragement and support ... and maybe I am underestimating the fund raising power of Saintsational. Maybe we can raise more money for the club than last year - ever year this has grown and believe me the club has noticed.

To be more realistic and just as a suggestion, I think we should start 6 stickies with the folowing players and shares available to get the ball rolling and ask the club to hold a sponsorship on each, but quite quickly we shall see which players get the financial support of Saintsational.

We will soon know which players get the $ support (or not) so it is a quasi poll ... and we could set a deadline to determine if we can commit (or not) to a sponsorship on particular players without delayimg us or the club. For example raising at least $900 for a development player and $1200 for a core player BY December 1st. If we dont raise enough for a player, then the posters who have pledged dont have to pay up for that player and can choose to contribute to another effort to raise the rest of the money needed for the players that we have committed to for 2010.

Development player 1: e.g. Tommy Walsh --> 135 shares @ $10
Development player 2: e.g. Rhys Stanley --> 135 shares @ $10
Development player 3: e.g. Nick Heyne --> 135 shares @ $10

and

Core player 1: e.g Jack Steven --> 185 shares @ $10
Core player 2: e.g. Andrew McQualter --> 185 shares @ $10
Core player 3: e.g. Raph Clarke --> 185 shares @ $10

These are just the 3 players in each category I would like based on remaining loyal to Raph, Jack, Andrew and Nick AND adding in the exciting Tommy Walsh and Rhys Stanley. I am sure others will disagree.

We could hold a poll to determine the 3 players in each category BUT I believe the loyalty aspect votes 4 players in AND there is no doubt from ready the posts - Walsh and Stanley are favourites in Saintsational. I sam woried that polls etc will just delay the process of raising actual $s!

I am prepared to put my money where my keyboard is and pledge the following to start the ball rolling iF this method is acceptable ... actually I will be chipping in this amount anyway but this is how i would do it under this system, simply as a way of creating an example on how it can work.

Development player 1: Tommy Walsh --> 2 shares @ $10 = $20
Development player 2: Rhys Stanley --> 4 shares @ $10 = $40
Development player 3: Nick Heyne --> 1 share @ $10 = $10

and

Core player 1: Jack Steven --> 5 shares @ $10 = $50
Core player 2: Andrew McQualter --> 2 share @ $10 = $20
Core player 3: Raph Clarke --> 1 share @ $10 = $10

I could then put in my profile my 2010 sponsorship contribution and player name - player by player - if I so wished.

What do people think of this idea?

Yes, that's how I understood it to be. Suits me, if they are a Saint they've got my support and I'll be proud to help sponsor any one of them.

so it looks like 2 core and 2 development might be realistic ... that would be $6400.

Last year we basically went player by player ... so even though it was one in all in in terms of ownership we were contributing $s for particular players ...

Here's the response from the CLub to my email re taking Tommy Walsh and as to how many of our current sponsored players had other sponsors?
Hi Allan

Thanks for the response. I’ve marked you down for Tommy Walsh and I think he’d be a good replacement for Ross.

As far as your other sponsorships are concerned, Raph Clarke and Jack Steven are the only two who had multiple sponsors in 2009. I believe that Jack’s other sponsors are continuing, however I’m unsure of Raph’s. McQualter and Heyne have you as their only sponsor.

I will forward you through the relevant booking form in the coming week however it’d be great if you could lock in your preferences with me as soon as you can. Let me know if you have any questions in the meantime.

Talk soon

Regards
So, based on this I have confirmed that we have Tommy Walsh as a replacement for Ross Tungatalum.

The rest are up to group consensus as to which way we go.

So are we going to start off with 3 players and build to 5 or just aim for 5 players straight up?
