Only 1 Pick?

Only 1 Pick?
As we dont really know who we are delisting until it is advertised it looks as though we may only use one pick after reading what is happening to our list
I have heard from here that :
Miles will be promoted
We know that Zac will be promoted
we traded Lovett in
traded Peake in
Have heard that Eljay may be delisted to go on rookie list
and Begley may go back to Ireland
We only traded x Clarke out
Max retired
Allen retired
So with the new rules of being able to promote a rookie instead of drafting players in the draft means we have 4 players in and 5 players out so does that mean we will only use 1 pick in this draft?
Is this likely to happen or are we going to delist more to get another pick?

3 picks in the national draft but the AFL has ageed that ONLY ONE rookie promotion can be counted instead of a draft pick.
ST KILDA MUST MAKE A MINIMUM OF 2 PICKS
Picks 32 and picks 60 are compulsory.
The club seems to view the rookie signing of Tommy Walsh like a first round draft pick and expect he may play senior footy in 2010.
There is a reasonable chance that St Kilda may not want to make a full list of 40 senior and veteran players.
They may limit themselves to 39 and make Tommy Walsh a nominated rookie who would then be able to play senior fooball without needing a temporary promotion requiring a long term injury.

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

We can PROMOTE as may rookies as we have places for BUT we can only count one INSTEAD 1 of 3 draft picks.Batnoe wrote:If we need to take at least 2 picks in the draft and can only promote one (Zac) from rookie list and assuming we keep Ball then if we are going to keep Miles we will use pick 60 to pick him up?ausfatcat wrote:What!!!Batnoe wrote:So talks of Miles isnt true? we will pick him at pick 60 then!
Dawson and Miles can both be promoted at List Lodgement No1 but we must make at least 2 picks in the National Draft so we must cut the senior and veteran numbers by List Lodgement No2 to make room for the two picks.
We must also cut the senior and veteran numbers to make the rookie promotions at List Lodgement No 1.

The club presently has 40 senior and veteran players assuming both Dawson and Miles are promoted and both Hayes and Baker become veterans not on the senior list.
That means the club can submit List Lodgement No1 without delisting anyone.
However at least 2 players must be delisted by List Lodgement No2 to make way for at least 2 National Draft picks.
Given that Tungatalum has revealed he is delisted and assuming both Duncan and Widner are promoted to former NSW scholarship rookies.
The club can submit List Lodgement No1 without delisting any more rookies.
However Haretuku must face the National draft before the club has a chance to pre-select him for a 3rd year rookie at the rookie draft.
However we already know Tommy Walsh will be pre-selected as an international rookie, so at least one rookie probably Haretuku must make way for him.
The delisting of rookies effectively takes place at List Lodgement No1 as it is at that time that rookies are retained for the next year.

agreed, though i think we may not use 64. if we promote miles and dawson then that's a couple more spots filled, and that allows us not to use the third pick. 60 could then be a recycled player, so we might get just one kid this year...robbie muir wrote:I don't think the Saints will be using pick 80.
They will use picks 32 and 60 ans maybe pick 64.
Pick 80 won't be used.
lyon suggested this when he said:
"I went up to Canberra to interview 12 or 13 (players) we thought might be around our draft pick."

"our draft pick"? that suggests only one kid, to me.

We would have a very strong list if Ball remains, but injuries are the key to all Clubs...CaptainReiwoldt wrote:IF we keep Ball this will be hands DOWN be the GREATEST LIST OF ALL TIME.
I cant see us losing ...
It effected the Hawks big time this season, and I just hope your name sake remains injury free next year, in fact I hope that all our players don't suffer some serious injury, because that is the difference in winning games and winning the big one.
Don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel to appear, run down there and light the bloody thing yourself!
Yes and no, we played Hawthorn with probably the equivalent amount of big name players missing, and still managed to win. I think they also fell into bad habits, and didn't play for one another much this year. They will need to realise that it still takes hard work, and it's not just going to happen for them next year either.St Fidelius wrote:We would have a very strong list if Ball remains, but injuries are the key to all Clubs...CaptainReiwoldt wrote:IF we keep Ball this will be hands DOWN be the GREATEST LIST OF ALL TIME.

AFL changed some of the rookie rules on Monday - all of them very positive:
"Under several changes approved by the commission on Monday, the rules have been relaxed to allow an extra two rookies on to every club's list, with mature-age rookies allowed not only to have played an infinite number of senior games but also paid over the odds in rookie terms. Any contract worth more than the minimum rookie payment would result in the additional money being included in the total player payments.
Rookies from 2010 will be allowed to remain on an AFL club's list for three years and the minimum required delistings of three players per club would result in a rookie being allowed to be included in one of the three footballers replaced on a senior list."
In summary, this means we can put ANY player (no matter how many games they have played) onto the rookie list next year (maximum of two) - e.g. Nathan Brown, Buckley, Harris...
We can select an extra two rookies
Rookies may now be kept a third year - VERY likely that this could be Miles...
And elevating ONE rookie can take the place of one of the three required additions to the list.
