Assuming it is correct that we have offered Port pick 16 + Ball for Burgoyne, what does everyone think?
Burgoyne is an out and out GUN and with him in the midfield it would allow Goddard to play the 3rd fwd role. Burgoyne is a very strong clearence player but is also a very accurate kick. So we wouldn't lose much in the clearences, replacing Ball with Burgoyne, but we would gain alot with foot skills.
I know Ball is a club favourite, but if this trade was actually to be accepted by Port, then we would be crazy not to do it.
I just don't think Port would take this. We would have to throw in our 3rd rounder as well imo.

Re: Shaun Burgoyne
Our 3rd round pick is 48, but because the age group of young kids is only 8 months wide instead of 12 months it is equivalent to pick 72 or a 5th round pick.#1GILL wrote:Assuming it is correct that we have offered Port pick 16 + Ball for Burgoyne, what does everyone think?

In a normal draft teams are passing or all done at 72, waiting for the preseason draft or preferring to retain existing players.
Last year, the clubs took a total of 79 players in the national draft so it would not surprise if only a few over 50 were taken this year.
I don't think our 3rd round pick has much value so trading it does not hurt.
We should be able to get the same player with a 4th round pick if required.

Burgoyne is going to Hawthorn or Essendon we have no chance to get him regardless of how good a fit he would be to our lineup. The reason he wants to go those clubs is because he has an affiliation with people at those clubs (e.g. Clarkson from his days at PA)...
I get the feeling that we wont be heavilly involved this trade week...

I getting the feeling that the Hawks are doing an O'Keefe...super dooper wrote:Burgoyne is going to Hawthorn or Essendon...
Offering the player what he wants...but bugger all to PA.
Expect Burgoyne trade to drag...and could end up anywhere.
Would also not surprise to see the Hawks switch to Jolly...as Jolly would bea lot more value to them than Burgoyne.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
Especially since Campbell announced his retirement last night. Taylor is one of the worst players i have ever seen. Baily is out for another year, and is in serious doubt to ever play again. Not to mention Renouf is not the best ruck in the league.saintsRrising wrote:I getting the feeling that the Hawks are doing an O'Keefe...super dooper wrote:Burgoyne is going to Hawthorn or Essendon...

I can't see them finishing top 4 next year unless they recruit a decent ruck somewhere during trade week(Jolly)
All top 4 sides this year had atleast 1 or 2 Established Rucks

I thought Sydney was after Seaby.saintjake wrote:hawks are close to getting Seaby.
I can't imagine Hawthorn being willing to outbid Sydney in the trade.
Anyone Hawthorn offers is guaranteed to be dud, with deleted medical records.
Hawthorn may offer the player the best deal, but West Coast will take the best deal for themselves.

Burgoyne may like to go to Hawthorn, but no club trusts Hawthorn.super dooper wrote:Burgoyne is going to Hawthorn or Essendon we have no chance to get him regardless of how good a fit he would be to our lineup. Burgoyne will either go to Essendon or elsewhere, it all depends on the trade.
If Lovett is part of the deal then Essendon probably is ahead but not over the line.
Players who want to be traded normally end up where their original club gets the best deal.

Is there anybody the Hawks aren't going to get in Trade Week?saintjake wrote:hawks are close to getting Seaby.
So far the media and rumour mill ahs them getting about 20 players!!!!
So far I haven't seen them get anybody of value because most Clubs seem to feel they are too 'difficult' to deal with.

I get that feeling too. Pick 9 and some borderline B or C grade players. Supposedly they won't trade Lewis or Birchall - that's fine. It's when they refuse to deal guys like Dowler and Shoenmakers that it really starts to look iffy.saintsRrising wrote:I getting the feeling that the Hawks are doing an O'Keefe...
FWIW, ROK said on the radio that Hawthorn was never the intended target of his return home. He implied heavily that Visy were the ones trying to get it done. From the sound of things Visy were trying to get O'Keefe and Warnock to raise cardboard awareness without giving up their first round pick or any best-22 players. Crazy.
Yeah nah pleasing positive

Now that Hawthorn have lived up to their reputation and have been too arrogant to get a deal done, is Burgoyne on our radar?
It is documented that he likes indigenous boys around the club and he would know Raph and Lovett from past Aboriginal All Star games.
He is a proven goal kicker (has kicked 5 in a game), strong overhead, quick and to me represents the goal kicking high half forward that we are lacking.
The issue is obviously going to be his salary but with Ball and X leaving, there may be space???
I doubt it but would Ball, Goose and a pick get us over the line??
If so, it would be the coup of trade week.

Lance or James??

Maybe Chocco might offer him the captaincy....he would be a fair improvement on Casissi!!
I know we are dreaming but it is a bloody nice dream!!
since we don't have the pick 16 anymore, which is what we offered originally with Ball we would have to throw in a quality player.
Not sure who we could even offer...Maybe Demspter? Not exactly quality
