No way Lovett will play off the half back flank. Will start on a wing or HFF for sure.evertonfc wrote:Really happy but would have rather seen us go for a 4th round pick on him.
And I'd have bargained hard for a 2nd round deal with Lovett.
Still, Peake and Lovett will give us immense dash off the backline next year.
Frees up Goddard to go forward.
Pace to burn

A few comments:
* I think we have all been spoilt by several years of EXCEPTIONAL trades...so we expect the gravy to continue.
* This years trade are more "fair" than one sided....Peake probably a bit expensive BUT remember this is meant to be a very weak draft that late.
* YES Peake is a speculative pick...but hey pick 48 is always a speculative pick!!!!
* As a pick 48 he comes with our a guarantee...but that is very much the case for late picks and more so in week years.
* Lack of pace was one of our few weaknesses this year...and equally extra speed could help give us the edge over the Cats.
* IF Peake and Lovett can be made to both click..then along with Gram that is going to give us a fair turn of pace.
* If Peake crashes and burns...then no bif loss.
Personally I would havea bit of faith...so far the Lyon Drain combo has been pretty ok at resurrecting talent.
==== Gardi, Zac, Ray & Mini!!!!....and Schneider is a more complete player than he was at the Swans.
*Lets see what Lyon can do with him....
Just need HF now...Davis to WCE, McKiley to Saints, Ball to Pies anyone????

Regardless of the bona fides of the individual players involved, we're on the verge of losing a 25 year old and replacing him with a 26 and 27 year old?
Our list was already aging a bit, now we're adding two players who slot in as tenth and eleventh oldest?
This feels a lot like banking everything we've got on next year and hoping like hell that it works. Because in three or four years we'll be in trouble.
So you would rather Luke with his blistering pace and long kicking would you ,

Exactly..with Lovett and Goddard rotating through the mid and HF we have a more balanced forward 50 with only 2 of McQ, Milne and Schneids getting a game along Roo and Kosi. Looking Solid...touch wood another season with a fully fit squad and we'll be top 4 again!Solar wrote:interesting trade, we have gone from a very slow midfield to perhaps a quick slick midfield.... gram, lovett, peake
I like the idea of moving BJ to half forward.

And this year is a weaker draft.lendog heaven wrote:Nick Heyne pick 48 2008 draftMilton66 wrote:So who else could we have got with that pick?? And in this draft?
Don't forget that we've still got the Ball trade to happen, which will get us a higher pick IMO.
And Heyne is a speculative pick at well.....as are any picks this late.

I thought he looked good but Freo fans, who watch him every week, have a vastly different idea.
'inconsistant'
'turns the ball over'
'soft'
etc.
Yeah just like all the flogs who are bagging Ball now , its called fickle

I'm seriously having deja-vu with just the names transposed.

Interesting observation although we will have little to trade unless our recruiting is better than other clubs.sendmehomehappy wrote:At least, if we do hit the bottom of the ladder circa 2013....the Gold Coast and West Sydney draft charities will be over and we will get full value for our high draft picks in rebuilding.

I am actually in agreement with you on this....I think RL has said you can still develop while being a flag threat.
We have the coach, administration, trade and recruiting staff, club policies and culture in place now to keep us a treat for a long time.

And we're now drafting later for the sake of a player we don't need. If Peake is playing he's probably keeping one of our younger players out of the side. If he's not, then we've thrown away a pick. Either way is wasteful. Our picks are now 32, 64 and 80. It strikes me that in a weak draft, you'd want to be speculating earlier.saintsRrising wrote:And this year is a weaker draft.

If a "kid" is good enough, he'll take Peake's spot. How can depth be seen as being a waste.
So why bother with more than 26 players on your list?
Sorry, but this is a silly argument IMO.
I think we saw 2 weeks ago how having a few average players can cost you.
Syrely, moe competition for senior spots must be viewed as good thing?

Final point: HAs anyone considered that the coach does not think that some of our young guns may be ready for a full season yet?
I know it's abit of a novelty having players properly developed for once, but maybe the inner snactum is yet to be convinced that some of these players are ready to step up to the required level.
And if they do, then we are in a fantastic position.
