Anyone Else Excited By Stanley?

Post: # 843319Post SaintWodonga »

I reckon he is a real prospect. Tall bloke who won the grand final sprint. Got to have an exciting future for the club...

I would play him in front of McEvoy at the moment.

I'm excited by his pace, especially on the wet track. You might need to replace Kingy with Stanley as your new avatar, SW

By all reports really held his own, and more in rucking with Sandi this year.

He would want to bulk up a fair bit otherwise he would be monstered by the best ruckmen at senior level -maybe two years off.

imo he shouldn't be pigeon-holed as ruck only, because that will limit the chances of us getting games into a very good prospect.

i've seen enough to know he's a lot more than a tall guy who can run fast.

can mark, kick and rack up plenty of possessions.

Needs to work on his pace and has to grow a bit.

Lance or James??

Once again borderbarry comments from Wodonga on Sandy players.

I've seen plenty of Sandy this year and there is no way Stanley is ahead of Big Mac.

Stanley will be a player and not just a ruckman, but is probably 18 months away.

He's shown promise this year but he's still a way off. And there's no way he's ahead of McEvoy i don't think he has the size to effectively ruck atm.

I am eexcited..BUT he is 18...and so needs meat on the bones and games yet as he is raw to AFL.

Big upside...but needs time.

As mentioned Ben is ready to play...Stanley is not.

with that sort of speed off the mark he might make a key forward down the track.

only drawback at this stage is is rather spindly build. and i don't know about his endurance/tank.

Once he has the endurance he could play in a number of positions almost immediately - on the wing you don't need a solid body.

I'm still more excited by McGrath, but the more I see of Stanley the more I like

I realise a highlights video could make Shaun McManus look a half-decent player but from the youtube vids I've seen Stanley looks very good.

He has a bit of Kurt Tippett about him in the way he moves. Similar body-shape and, coming from a basketball background like Tippett, a strong leap. Tippett obviously ain't got pace like this kid though.

Long, long way to go but he could be absolutely anything.

that would present a match up problem to our opponents. anyone else got a 200cm winger who wins grand final sprints?

The games I saw of him at Sandy, showed he has the pace to run down midfielders and tackle them hard. As far as I'm concerned he's got the basics for our ruckman of the future (2011 onwards) the rest will develop nicely in time as he develops. A very exciting prospect.

Could find a spot for both of them? Mc at half forward?

OHHHHHH....

So suddenly Rhys Stanley is on the map.

I seem to remember some on this forum asking "who?" only a couple of weeks ago... and suggesting he be used for trade bait.

Nuts.

A lot of our kids get bandied about as exciting prospects when basically they're barely a player at VFL level.
However Stanley is genuinely an exciting prospect.
Still raw,but very very promising in 2 years time. Potential to be elite

I think I read or heard somewhere that Rhys has a basketball background. Do we expect him to turn out like Kurt Tippett? Dean Brogan? or the best of both? !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Tippett will be a star,so dont want to put to much pressure on Rhys.... but he'll be better than Brogan
