This is an admission that we're going all out for the flag in the next two years and not considering the future. Paul Roos style, I guess.
Dont understand this at all.,

We were FIVE MINUTES from a flag.

FIVE MINUTES.

At the moment we might as well be 5 years, but do you want to wait until 2014 or 2015 before we challenge again?

We have the players (almost) the structure, the gameplan, the coach, the captain.

We also had a store of youngsters who learnt their trade in the ressies all year.

Heyne, Steven, Armo, Lynch, Big Mac, Our version of Ushain Bolt, and probably two or three others.

This is another great trade.

Our time is NOW. We are going all out for our flag, unless of course you enjoy the feeling of another flagless year.
THIS.

Pleasing.

Seems like a win/win trade where both parties are happy enough with how it panned out. Given the limitations of the system it bodes well that our club can organise themselves to identify a need and find a reasonable way to fulfil that need.

Love the flair and the pace.

When you go shopping for a specific type you have to pay the price on the few that will be available (Lovett and Burgoyne would be about it?).

Scarcity determines price.

I'm rapt that the club has been able to secure him. Will add more variation to RLs plans. And might kick a couple of goals.

And if some Essadun supporters are upset then even better.

Terrific trade.

Once Lyonised, he'll be awesome.

Great to see another indigenous fella on the list, too

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Don't forget that due to this year's draft only being open to 8 months worth of draftees (all the 17 year olds are held over til next year for the GC17), pick 16 is actually worth an early 2nd round pick.

So to everyone saying we paid overs for Lovett, would pick 24 be more appropriate??? That is the price we have effectively paid.

We still may end up with a 1st round pick with the Ball trade too.

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

i'm happy with this trade as it addresses two problems ... a lack of pace around the ground and, indirectly, the lack of a goal-kicking third tall forward.

out of interest, who would win a sprint between lovett and rhys "lightning" stanley?

thats my only concern aswell! He fills some needs that we have, it just wouldve been nice to have gotten abit extra for it.

Pick 16 is worth as much in this draft either so i suppose it looks abit worse than it is.. We have to play hard Ball (pardon the pun) when it comes to Luke Ball though!
agreed ...Fev would be worth pick 16 and without Ball's $600k would have been only minor salary cap adjustment.
only 88 games for a 26yr old, he took a while to break into the Ess squad!
And what does this say of X Clarke (and maybe Ray) both are outside running mids

It says that they are no-where near as quick as Lovett and aren't likely to kick as many goals, or break as many games open.

I'm pretty sure Lovett wasn't recruited at the normal age. He's only been on their main list for 5 years or so.

Thanks......oh that Andrew

Hey 27 is a great age to pick up a player. Essendon have given him nearly 100 games. He comes to us knowing that he has stuffed up off field and this is his last chance. He knows that we can win a flag, and Essendon is still a couple of years away. He's fast and can be a match winner. I lovett

i dont know why ray came into this arguement.
i really like ray, and to me, he isnt just an outside runner, he gets some hardball and has good hands, but i do love watching him run and unloading.
i like ray:)

And the problem with winning a flag in the next two years is exactly what? And besides, isn't the NEXT two years the future?
Absolutely. We've waited 43 years and then 69 years before that. Win it now. Win it NOW.

Great pick up.
