My third GF loss

Some advice to those who experienced their first today.

You never get over it.
You just have to learn to deal with it.
And try to suppress it.

But it will never go away.
You will wake up in the middle of the night in years to come and have flashbacks.
Nighmares.

I still have painful memories of 71.
That last quarter was a nightmare as a healthy lead slowly dwindled away.
And the feeling of utter helplessness and anxiety as you watched this car crash happening in slow motion.

97 was another missed chance.
Everything seemed to conspire against us.
And the filthy Crows and bad coaching rubbed acid into a festering wound.
I only have vague memories of that last quarter debacle.
Was reading this week about Bourkey kicking a goal in that final qtr but I have no memory of it as by then I had zoned out.
Have never watched that second half and I don't think I ever will.

Now this !
Dominant team all season.
Dominant team most of the game.
Frustrating inability to get our dominance on the scoreboard.
A handful of critical errors / missed opportunities.
We all know we should have won it.
Another one to delete off the hard disk.

Older supporters are scarred by these horrendous failures.
We almost seem to accept it will happen because it has happened before.

Just hope that attitude doesn't infect the players.

Me too Enrico. Went to 71 by myself and remember the sad feelings as I travelled home by train. 26 years later - finally another chance - and then 12 years later - this weekend. And now the fear that it could be another 12-20 years. We have the team to get there again in 2010 - so here's hoping cos like our stars of '66 - I'm sick of reminscing back that far.

The only real prize we scored today is we've blooded our youth! Today was a baptism of fire!

Long gone are the days of the 97 GF. We've been competitive over the last 5 yrs. Our board has settled, we've got a tremendous coaching base and the list is improving all the time! Exciting times ahead! Even I can see it past the heartache I've experienced today!

2010 shall provide more thrills than we've seen this season! The gloves will be off!

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

Unfortunately, seen us lose 3 as well. Doesn't get any easier.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

Cheers Enrico...I was wondering when this feeling would go away! Never is the answer, apparently.

Feels worse then '97 to me. But then again...I used to drink back then and may have destroyed the short term memory neurons so it didn't hurt as bad.

3-0 for me as well, I feel worse than both 71 and 97, today I feel even worse than last night, to be so close and yet so far.

Damn the cats.

I think the media made too much of the one pointer over the Pies. It was played and analysed a dozen or more times even on the day. They do it because of the tight finish which is good for TV viewing but for me it seems to promote a 'wobbly kick' mentality and we need to break out of that. Even during the description of the game yesterday one commentator referred to our team several times as having "won its only flag by one point". Sorry if this sounds negative but it is a state of mind I have had to wrestle with after 75 years of devotion to the Mighty Saints.
