Defeated Saints given brutal ultimatum
I felt crap this moning till I read this
St Kilda coach Ross Lyons has delivered a brutal ultimatum to his players following their narrow AFL grand final loss to Geelong.
Noticeably raising his voice as he addressed the Saints at their grand final night function, Lyon's ultimatum was patently clear - if you can't redouble your 2009 efforts next year, you can leave the club.

i was actually there at the palladium last night and thought Ross spoke very well, far from "brutal"
Everyone in the room was hurting and it sure did fire me up as he steered away from all the cliche sayings as all speakers through the night did. His speech was measured and had conviction about it.
He spoke about how "change is the only constant in the AFL" and that we must continue to evolve our game plan to once again put us in a similar position next year, and without the MORE efforts from the players next year we will go no where. What is so brutal about that?
Hats of to Ross for his efforts this year, he COULD NOT have done anymore than he did yesterday or for the rest of the year.
He spoke the truth, showed desire to go the next step and we can only hope the players felt the same way.
What could have been one of the greatest nights of my life celebrating a premiership with all the STKFC greats was the equivelent to a wake at a funeral. I guess thats the punt you take when you go to a post GF function.

G'day Moccha. Italian CLub was good. Lots of people there, a big screen and a smaller but still big LCD and you could either sit or stand depending on how you felt. We were riding every tackle and possession, especially in the last when it was such an arm wrestle. When teh Cats got 7 points up with bugger all time left the place was pretty quiet. Just gutted afterwards. Just sat there stunned for about fifteen minutes. All the Karalee crew were there and all of us bitterly disappointed afterwards. Everyone drifted off gradually after the game. Couldn't watch the presentations, went outside and stared at the footpath with a bunch of others. Rog, Tim, JD, all gutted.Moccha wrote:How was the Italian Club?st.byron wrote:Well that's given me a lift. Felt as flat as a pancake this morning. I love Lyon. He's got balls.
I think Ross is going to rattle a few cages in Sainterland!
