It just hit me

Post: # 832653Post st.byron »

Bloody hell I'm nervous. I'm useless at work, can't think about anything other than the GF and I just got the shakes. We just HAVE to win. The alternative doesn't bear thinking about.

Better lighten up, Byron. It's only a game. Two shay (sic)

Can understand if you are in WA. We are all finishing up for the day but you have the agony of the next couple of hours. Hang in there

Benefit of WA is that it will be all over by 3pm. We have to wait 'til 5pm.

I was having a discussion with my Tigers supporting mate last night about the, "it's only a game thing". I know it's only a footy match and that my life doesn't hinge on the result but - there's a deep passion in me for Saints' success that cannot be denied or watered down. It doesn't matter how much I tell myself that it's only a game, it's just so much more than that. A born and bred Sainter, 40+years is a long bloody wait, especially with all of baggage about our wooden spoons and image of perenniall cellar-dwellers.
The roar is there from my guts for the Saints and there aint no way it can be talked into submission. We just have to win. Simple.

Yep. Am having breaky at my mates house, then off to the Italian Club for 11.00am to get in the spirit of things for the game. Game will be over by 3.15 or so which leaves the remainder of the afternoon and night to celebrate.

aye none of the excitement of 97, dread, fear, that knott in the base of my stomach, and the tightening of the nutsack.

I hope truly the players are far more balanced than this sad fat old man here ;)

all the best.

no, i watched from st kilda, went to the prelim and was smashed about an hour after we drilled north.

during the GF i was smashed at 1/2 time celebrating our victory in a pub in st kilda....

big diff between 27/28 and full of fun, alcohol and excitement about everything and 40, bitter and twisted.

Its pretty pathetic that my emotional well being is linked to a game of football.

Dan, that is out lot, the price we pay. I can be exactly like that and I just accept it as a measure of my commitment & emotion.

No it's not mate. Strength through loyalty.....and maybe a tad of emotion.

Passion is good. The downs are not great but the joy is priceless. It's time we got some of that.

Hard to believe that The Mighty Sainters are in a Grand Final!
I was 3 when the '97 GF happened so i can't say i've ever known what it's like to be in the GF.
GO THE MIGHTY SAINTERS!

Looking forward to 2010 - I'm gonna Lovett!

Makes me realise what this club means to all ages.

Your passion is just the same as mine and the premiership means the same to both of us.

I hope we both have the best day tomorrow.

To me it's not about footy. It's about the Saints.
I absolutely love the Saints and i've realised recently, that I love the Saints, not footy.
I only love footy because the Mighty Sainters play it and to me, the sport comes with the team.
I just don't want to lose tomorrow and have people tell me "Don't worry, there's always next year." Because we may never get this chance again and i just to win 1 flag in my life if that's what it will take for us to win tomorrow.
I've also recently told myself the following quote:
"You don't wait for an opportunity to come along - An opportunity waits for you to come along."
This means that you don't wait for the opportunity because while you wait someone else won't wait and they will take it before it gets to you.

So come on Sainters, grab that opportunity which is right in front of you and don't let it go because you may never get the chance again.

GO THE MIGHTY SAINTERS!

Looking forward to 2010 - I'm gonna Lovett!

Geez, I hope you're right, stinger.
Logic tells me that this is the best St Kilda TEAM I've ever seen.
We've earned this!!!.... but the ghosts of the past are hard to shake.

I was born just 10 days after our beloved Saints won their 1st and only in '66.
As a 5 year-old I can't remember too much about '71 (although I'm going to watch the replay on Fox Sports tonight....until 3/4 time)

I remember growing up in East Bentleigh in the late 70's and early 80's and cycling down to Moorabbin with my older brother to watch every home game. Breen, Barker, Muir, Joffa, Diettrich etc.
I remember being teased at school for following a pack of losers... I remember how 'tough' it made me.... how I was able to handle any challenge life threw at me (and there's been one or two)

I remember chucking in $500 during the Save Our Saints campaign because I couldn't bear the thought of seeing this club die.

I remember greiving in '97. I was inconsolable. That loss was like a death in the family. I was physically sick. I was in Melbourne with my brother and we actually cried together over losing a footy game...... and I'll do the same tomorrow if the worst happens.

I've been completely unfocused at work this week. Tonight is almost unbearable... I can't concentrate.. I can't sit still..........

I can't understand how the result of a game, played by a group of young men I don't know personally can affect me to this extent.
I can't undertand how I'm so totally engrossed in a sporting contest that really means nothing in the great scheme of things.

I just know that it means alot to me... and come 5.00pm tomorrow I'll either be Euphoric or Devastated.

I want this WIN so badly..... For The Club, for me, for my brother, for my beloved late Uncle who fostered my love of The Saints..... for all the faithfull who have stuck by this club through the good and bad.

IT'S OUR TIME!!!!! C'MON SAINTERS!!!

Bakesfan
I share your memories and pain.
I also grew up in Bentleigh and spent every second Sat arvo watching the boys and dreaming I would one day see them with a Premiership cup.

Too many heartbreaks.
There's going to be a tidal wave of emotion tomorrow as we blow away 43 years of pent-up frustration.

Hit the nail right on the head Bakes. +1, even down to living in East Bentleigh, though we moved away in the mid 60's. The emotions are very strong around this game. Come on Sainters. Please.

In my opinion anyone aho moves from east bentleigh isnt a true supporter of east bentleigh or the club. i once moved to South oakleigh and was nearly kicked out of the club.

I moved to South Oakleigh, and they re-zoned it as East Bentleigh. So I am ace, and you should have been kicked out of the club you treacherous turncoat!
