A chance to end it once and for all?
People talk about the rivalry between these two clubs, mostly started by Geelong's comments about 5-6 years ago stating they were better then us.
St.Kilda to the best of my knowledge never counted those claims as a club (although as supporters we did). The club just played the game and disregarded all that verbal crap.
In 04 and 05 we were better then they were, but they went past us clearly, and won a flag in 2007 in awesome fashion.
For many of us that hurt.
Well they have stated this is their last chance as a group to win a flag, how fitting would it be to defeat them on saturday, square the ledger at 1 flag each in this era, and go back past them as the superior side.
We started this "era" better then them. Let's finish the cycle.

Exactly what Rob Harvey said was the problem with 97 squad - that feeling that 'well, if we bugger it up this year, we'll be monties next year.'BaysideSaint wrote: besides, we'll be there again next season, anyway, such is the list.
Exactly what haunts Nicky Winmar to this very day.
Exactly what will probably haunt Max H for as long as he lives.
Sorry. I'm not falling for that old chestnut. Talk of windows and lists and potential future oppoortunites is insipid.
This year or bust as far as I'm concerned.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
concur sydney and WCE are two examples, they are barely competitive now.
Hawks got their shot and grabbed, Collingwood had 2 shots, and failed, forced to rebuild and still way behind the front runners.
Melbourne haven't had a shot in 2 decades.
Port had 4 seasons of dominant football and fell across the line thanks to some dubious umpiring decisions and grabbed their chance.
we have had some luck this year or maybe an absence of bad luck.
i expect us to be competitive next year but who can tell? a few injuries, a few bad reports, etc and its shot.
essendon 99 to 01, one flag, its NOT easy. Brisbane and Sydney have falled away since their salary cap/living away allowances were standardised.
the players should look at this as their one shot and take it.

Spot on, I'd be disappointed if they thought otherwise...one chance, take it!!!aussiejones wrote:" the players should look at this as their one shot and take it."
Any thought about next year (if we miss) is just letting them off the hook .
I am certain the players are not thinking about next year .

Re: A chance to end it once and for all?
I dunno...I hated them consistantly throughout the late 1980's and early 1990's, then they disappeared for 10+ years before all the recent crap started. They've always been a bunch of prats with a bad attitude, now they're a bunch of highly competative prats with a bad attitude.HarveysDeciple wrote:People talk about the rivalry between these two clubs, mostly started by Geelong's comments about 5-6 years ago stating they were better then us.
to some degree its justified, remember Essendon had no respect for us in the 80s and 90s. Hawks, for those of my age and older, Hawthorn of the late 70s and 80s had no respect for any body, you earned Hawthorns Respect.
it was Liverpool, Hawthorn and the West indies during the late 70s to early 90s.
they were the dark empire, they didn't win, the put teams down.
i'd love it if it was putting teams down.

The moment is now. Will never forget 98 when we beat the Dogs in Rd 15 and then fell down the tube after that.saintsRrising wrote:Exactly..Dan Warna wrote:

Seize the Day Saints.
Seize the Day!!!
I think the players know that after the 3 PF losses. You have to grab your chance now.

Re: A chance to end it once and for all?
It is certainly now or never. It could all fall in a heap like in 1998. Premierships are just so hard to win.
My thoughts exactly. It all came out of nowhere. Rent-a-stupid-quote Chapman and Thompson started getting narky that St Kilda got the media's attention, so they arked up. The rivalry's been one-sided and quite strange.HarveysDeciple wrote:People talk about the rivalry between these two clubs, mostly started by Geelong's comments about 5-6 years ago stating they were better then us.

Round 22, 2003. Cats get over the top of a fast finishing St Kilda. Both teams look the goods for the future.OneEyedSainter77 wrote:Five years in the making....

Me counts 6 years!
FWIW I actually remember sitting in the car whilst my mum did the shopping listening to that game. Was shattered, but knew we had good times ahead. s*** life goes fast...

Remember the game as well.
Was sitting at a mates house (my dad had the flu, so we didn't travel down the highway)
We had been told by my mate's parents rather oddly that we should be watching this game intently and looking foward to the future.
Great advice

Me too! throughout my life as a St.Kilda supporter they have brought nothing but grief.degruch wrote:I dunno...I hated them consistantly throughout the late 1980's and early 1990's, then they disappeared for 10+ years before all the recent crap started. The long train journeys to Kardinia Park and then putting up with their feral fans.
Ablett Senior's thuggish acts on both Nathan Burke and Christian Bardsley.
F*ck, I hate those c*nts!
Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!
