Former Saint relives heartache of losing grand final
SHOULD St Kilda lose this weekend's AFL grand final, former Saint John Bonney will understand the players' pain and heartache.

Bonney is a lovely guy. He used to own/run a deli/fruit shop in South Caulfield together with his wife and son. He sold it a few years back so he could concentrate on his other 'passion' horseracing.
The son was best mates with Steven Lawrence - the families were neighbours and the kids grew up together.
He told me that he was originally 'signing' with Collingwood but that St Kilda 'swooped' and grabbed him. Their loss was our gain. A very, very good player was Johnny Bonney.

Bonney's Son.
I'm sure his son, Stephen, played with St Kilda reserves in the late 80's -

Re: Bonney's Son.
Yep Stephen Bonney did play a few seasons with us in the 80's but none in the seniors. He also went out with my sister for a while.oh when wrote:I'm sure his son, Stephen, played with St Kilda reserves in the late 80's -

John Bonney
It became a bit of a joke in our house about John Bonney. My dad loved watching him play so much that for years after Bonney had retired, the first thing that Dad would write on the top of the team page of his footy record every week was:-
1. BONNEY, John
He did this for years after Bonney stopped playing!
