No Morphing Rodge.....or at least about what was said.

What has morphed is what you are stating that ALL posters wrote about GT going at the time that supported the sacking.

While one or two posters may have stated that all we needed was new coach...it does not alter that posters such as myself and OWTS made detailed posts to full range of deficicinies at the time.

The new coach was just one of a number of issues that needed to be rectified in changing from the outmoded GT Football Department to a New Modern Football Department.

One amongst them was that what had been a great list was being degraded...and many flaws had developed under GT with the trend being further decline.

Recruiting..player development...rookies...player conditioning...match day tactics....list management and other aspects were all detailed at the time as reason why GT & his outmoded Dictatorship ofa Football Department had to go.

Time has proven this asa wise move...and if the Saints had not changed we would be way behind where we are now.

Under the new football deapartment there is not one facet that has not improved, except for say the drafting of kids which is about the same:

* Match day coaching
* Player managenent (no more 5 year contracts biting us on the bum...or going over on the salary cap so that we have to play witha list short of the maximum

* From dud trades to being the best traders in the AFL
* From bad blood with our VFL Affilaite to smooth sailing where our players are now able to be played where the saints want them to be to develop them properly

* From not finding one rookie in the GT reign to now having several as core players in our best 22 (this euqals greater depth and more talent in your 22)

We have goone fromalist in decline...toa list now bursting with depth.

we have gone fromna team of downhill skiers good on the burst but with no stamina to deliver, toa four quarter disciplined team.

You wrongly try (as no doubt as a deliberate tactic) and make the posts of one or two as being the content of all who posted that GT going was the right call.

The long list of GT flaws were detailed back then...and have not changed.

It is about time you had the balls to actually write specifically which poster you are talking about.

[3) According to you, Gardi, King, Schneider, Eddy, Zac, Ray and CJ were a critical element of a "major rebuild" under Lion. Utter garbage. What happened between 2000-04 was a major rebuild. There were only 7 players who were regularly in our senior side at the end of 2000 who were still there in 2004: Baker, Hayes, Harvey, Max, Aussie, Peckett and AT. All of the rest were gone and largely replaced by young guys or recycled players from other clubs. On the other hand, 14 of the guys who ran out against the Pies in the QF two weeks ago were already at the club in 2004: and most were already in the senior side.

.
err MB...when had I ever stated that we did not have a major rebuild back then?

That era was built upon havinga solid group of
* 97 GF players
* New ready made players including star most attracted due to Blight Effect
* The boon of finishing low (in part by tanking) in an era when priorty picks were about to increase the benefit of finishing low
* Carlton cheating...so we had our pick upgraded..to gain BJ.

BUT when such boons ran out and GT was firmaly at the wheel...the lsit started to go into long-term decline as Gt was inept at adding new talent.

High draft picks were frittered away and all in all trades were dismal. Rookies were again..player development was poor.

the trend was clear..yes some of the young kids would have an upside as they gained age and experience..but under GT apart from that the talent pool was now in terminal decline.

Lyon has reversed all that along with Drain...and DESPITE finishing higher with less choice picks the talent pool has each year increased. Increased.

the trend is improvement.

Post Waldron leaving the trend under GT had switched from improvement to decline.

So - have we reached consensus??

Lance or James??

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Well, I reckon Harvey, Hamill, Gehrig, Thommo and Penny were pretty damn good players, as was the Max of that era.
Actually Thommo was probably a worse kick than CJ. Loved the guys endeavour but not in the league of Sir Robert and Fraser the Amazer.

I think the problem is you are still viewing it in terms of individuals (stars)

Team 09 is far superior to team 04 the results and stats speak volumes (as a team).

Penny = GOP, Dawson is at least as good already.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

A habitual liar actually. You simply cannot help yourself. Any chance at all you will post something with a hint of truth to it in the near future?

Time for a diversion.

Say you are a NSW Cabinet Minister.

Who would you prefer to sleep with?

This one

Or this one

(And, sorry for those of you who have unusual tastes, I'm not talking about the Sandman.)

Perhaps he doesn't have to choose, because the second woman is just the first one put through a time warp to make them look 20 years younger.

This other picture of the second one without makeup deepens the mystery (sorry, I have to link to the article).

(You might even ask whether the Kate variety of Neal/Neill even really looks 20 years younger than the Belinda variety.)

What I'm really trying to say in a convoluted way is that perhaps Ross Lyon and GT are actually the same person. If we could only agree on that, then resolution could be possible.

Should'nt you be asking who would we rather sleep with?

Ross Lyon or Grant Thomas?

To get this thread back on track, I really think GT should be able to comment on coaches.

its a "mortal sin" when you start a thread with sarcastic criticism, only to fess up later that you didnt have problem with the comment.

SO after 25 pages the OP sat back giggling all the while fanning furiously the flame war. You cant help yourself its' your nature.
And shame on the rest of you for buying into it.
Surely there is no sand left in this sandpit?

erm, once again you come out to play.

Where did I say that I agree with his comment on Ratten? The criticism was not sarcastic. It was legit. I still reckon (rightly or wrongly) that he didn't have the authority to say it given our capitulation in 05.

I thought it would have been clear enough.

I'd say you can't help yourself. It's your nature to add nothing of value and to take a swipe at me rom the safety of your keyboard.

Wasn't looking to start a flame war, merely opening a discussion. Perhaps your lies and accusations are best directed at posters who turned this into a GT v RL thread. But I doubt you would.

Gee, I must really p1ss you off for you to come on here with such blatant lies.

It probably depends on your taste: whether you prefer all-out attack or relentless forward pressure.

Why isn't someone who is employed to make comments, precisely because he is an ex-coach and player, not be allowed to do so? I would have thought GT's experiences on and off the field are the very reasons he's been given the gig. If anything, the 05 experience adds weight to his comments because he has experienced what it is like to be on the losing side in a prelim. That should give him an empathic view of things. That is, unless he is a narcissist and we all know that what makes a narcissist is a complete lack of empathy. I'd better stop now. I feel the whole thing bubbling up again.

Correct. My point is that people should be entitled to disagree or agree, which some have.

Is it really that difficult for people to grasp?

Disagree with my views by all means.
