Thoughts on last nights selections?
I thought Sam Gilbert was stiff to miss

Just think it was bizarre that the team with the most effective backline in the history of the game couldn't get a player in the AA backline.
Maxwell instead of Goddard? Don't make me laugh. I know I'd take
Gilbert Fisher Goddard over Goodwin Bolton (give me a break!) and Maxwell any day.

I reckon that just goes to show that our defence is one solid unit and not reliant on one or two to get the job done every week.

It really just boils down to a) 7 selectors opinions and b) AA being an individual award.

Five AA is the most ever from a Saints team in any year. Previous best was 4 in 1991 and 1997.

Just maybe the people selecting the side thought they were in the best 22 and were picked for that reason.

Political correctness Leon Davis keeps out Jason Porplyzia.
Political correctness requires at least one player from South Australia.
The Adelaide captain Simon Goodwin gets selected based on high profile. The Collingwood captain Nick Maxwell gets selected based on high profile.
The best half backs in the game get left out.

Have I ever suggested AFL is an abbreviation for political correctness as well as corruption.

Or maybe like you they are incapable of thought.
Too much head high contact?

It must be fun following a competition and thinking everything is corrupt.

Guys, why don't we let it go this week, and next if we get there. Nothing to be gained in an AFL is corrupt thread hijacking.

Be nice to stick to the comments about the actual side selected. I tend to agree with Ace in terms of other players being more suitable than leon davis, and goodwin and maxwell, but in the end I think if each of us selected a squad and then a side they would all be different, and there would always be some unlucky guys missing out.

Energy better spent on willing us past those Bullies this Friday night I think!

And that brings us to the people that select the side.

Can anyone explain how Adrian Anderson earned a vote? It is my view that the side should be selected by a panel of retired champion players and maybe coaches. Which would mean that Demetriou isn't qualified either. But at least he played at the top level, and as head of the AFL he should have a hand in selecting the panel.

As a side note, would AA benefit any of our boys contracts?

Is there no All-Australian coach? Who gets the "Coach of the YEar" award if there is still such a thing?

The winner of the GF is automatically coach of the year.

Gilbert was very unlucky too miss, I also thaught that Daniel Rich might have earned a spot on the bench also.

No shock that players like Judd and Gablett got a gernsey, even if they had an average year they would still be in

Half back line is a joke.

Gilbert very unlucky.

Goddard on the bench is insulting when you look at the half back line.

AA is flawed due to the muppets who select it. Impartiality is an issue.
