Why we can relax.
Last night (On The Couch) James Hird discussed at length why the Bulldogs can win on Friday night. Run hard, go over the top, the Saints push up, get the ball over them blah blah blah....as he was talking they showed vision of our last game against them... Hird would say 'yes, like that' as a Bulldog appeared to be running freely, next minute he was crunched between four Saints or 'yes over the top, like that' as the ball was turned over and we swept it forward for a goal. It went on for about four wonderful minutes. After that I thought 'nah, they can't beat us' and had the first good night's sleep I've had for a while.

It was quite amusing wasn't it? You could almost see the confidence draining out of him as they were showing the highlights reel. He finished off by saying that he never said the bulldogs would beat us but emphasised that they can beat us.
He must have said something on the radio earlier in the day about the bullies beating us and was asked to qualify his tip.
Of course the bullies can beat us. But we would have to play below our best and they would have to play at their absolute best for this to occur. If we allow that to happen we have no-one to blame but ourselves.

Re: Why we can relax.
It's been the story of the two contests with the Bulldogs this year. There is no structural reason why it should not be repeated. If we remain fit during the game (I never underestimate that catastrophic effect of losing just one midfielder during a game) and take our chances (well most of them, unlike our round 6 clash) then we should win. The Bulldogs aren't going to change their game plan significantly and neither are we.roxanne wrote:Last night (On The Couch) James Hird discussed at length why the Bulldogs can win on Friday night. Well most on here have gone cold on usbozza1980 wrote:I thought it was strange too.
Basically he said if all the things they tried last time (48 point loss) work really well and St Kilda don't play well, the Bulldogs could win.
Not sure why he's gone cold on us, he was one of the few that stayed onboard during the last couple of rounds.

Hird is only doing what many members of footy media will be doing all week.
Mainly, it's because it's what they're paid to do. Secondly, will still have many doubters. Thirdly, as calm and confident as I am in the boys, I still acknowledge that of course the Dogs can win and the old cliche is not far behind the truth, whoever brings their A game to the field can beat any opponent, particularly if the opposition doesn't!
CARN YOU F**KING SAINTERS!

Yep if we dont play well we lose. If the cats dont play well they lose. If the dogs dont play well they lose. Adelaide didnt play well after quarter time and they lost. Not rocket science.bozza1980 wrote:I thought it was strange too.

But what if we do play well. What if we play exceptionally well.
BTW is it lose or loose I dont know how to spell it and our players dont know how to say it
I never relax.
I was speaking to a Geelong supporter yesterday who said, and I quote: "I'm not worried about this week, it's two weeks I am worried about!"
Never look further ahead than the game you are immediately playing next.

I love this concept... confidence based on our performances throughout the year.
We beat the WBs twice, we denied them the chance to use their strengths.
In the last match against them, they had a reduced bench. We didn't have Kosi or Gardi..
IMO, The only thing that can keep us from our first GF this century is poor delivery into the forward line and inaccuracy.

I don't know about relaxing ..
I know we were back on track last week in most areas.
but ..
We need to get more efficiency out of our forward line and a spread of goals, which will make us less predictable.
Thankfully Roo kicked long goals against the Pies - but we had many more F50 entries than the Pies for only 3 more shots at goal.
that has to be a worry against the Dogs and then the Cats or Pies if we get over the Dogs.

Good on them, they try hard the Swans, but they're no chance against us. Looking forward to crushing West Coast in the GF...
