That one point in 1966, as never seen before
Now, as St Kilda and Collingwood prepare to do battle again this weekend in the first week of the 2009 finals, new footage has emerged of their famous 1966 encounter. Most importantly, it is in rich, full colour and shows the game from angles not seen before.

Wow!....Awesome..no really, I'm just speechless...
To have additional footage of the most significant event in the club's history surface 43 years afterwards!
and tracked down by Russell Holmesby, the club historian...can't wait to hear the story of that hunt.
...and the timing of this is just exquisite...days before we slam the Pies and a few weeks before we lift the second cup...
..and this one will be lifted by Roo in his tricolour!!!

At the Launceston reunion, one of the auction items (went for 3 grand) had "that" photo in it. However, a little bit of "digital enhancement" had the Doc in Red, White and Black and Tuddy in Black and White.matrixcutter wrote:we all know what the only prob is with that footage tho?, now its in colour its even worse huh??...

Apparently, the computer matches the shades of greyscale to a coresponding colour.OLB wrote:How do they turn black and white footage into colour?
I have this image in my mind of a group of geeks with photoshop open colouring in each frame of the video but that can't be the case.
How do they do it?
So a certain shade of grey is recreated in a specific colour.

Must be pretty time consuming, or else we'd have seen a lot more things that were filmed in black and white in colour, no?

Somehow I've never felt too much of an affiliation with the 66 flag, obviously because I was born over 7 years later. Maybe also because of the black & white footage.
After seeing that footage I'm almost in tears... seeing a team in RED WHITE & BLACK winning a flag.
Awesome... simply awesome.
God I love our club.
I hope more that almost anything (outside of the health & happiness of family) that our loyal, passionate supporters get to feel what those lucky enough to be there in 66 felt.
C'mon boys... do it for yourselves & do it for us

Yeah, I realise that. Moccha mentioned it above also.StNoodles wrote:Pretty sure it is genuine colour footage – no doctoring or colour-matching.
The footage has been uncovered by James Weston of media communications firm WMC, who found the Rothmans footage in a Sydney warehouse
Was still interested to understand the process of black and white to colour anyway

Thanks Moccha. Chills and tingles. Allan Jeans summed it up by saying that you wake up on the Sunday morning and realise what a wonderful world we live in. I'll take that!Moccha wrote:Now, as St Kilda and Collingwood prepare to do battle again this weekend in the first week of the 2009 finals, new footage has emerged of their famous 1966 encounter. 25 minutes to make a name for yourself like you've never made before.

Yeah but no but, my only prob with this is the number of years that I've been saying 'all I want is a premiership in colour"!
PS Roxanne, good to see you were also exposed to Milton Monster at a young age. Better hold your breath it's starting to tick/Better hold my hand , I'm feeling sick!
They will not grow old, as those from more northern States grow old.
For them it will always be three-quarter-time, with the scores level
and the wind advantage in the final term.
