It is HERE - OUR Day of GLORY !!
I have been following the Saints for over 40 years.
Been to over 600 games.
Always hoped that success was just around the corner.
Thought we were there a few times.
Experienced the heartbreak of the 71 GF last quarter.
And the utter depths of devastation in 97.
Not to mention all the lows and spoons and hopes that amounted to nothing in between.
Rode that 10 week wave of euphoria in 2004 that had us all thinking anything was possible.
But somehow we knew that the mix and the timing still wasn't quite right
2009 is different.
The pieces have finally fallen into place.
We have the right blend of experience and youth.
We have talent to burn on every line.
We have a super-smart coach who has brought it all together.
Instead of just copying or tweaking someone else's gameplan we have defined our own.
A difficult technical plan that demands unremitting concentration and relentless intensity that no other side has been able to match.
But a plan that when executed properly guarantees success.
We are not playing to honour a retiring champion or protecting careers.
We are playing with a hunger for TEAM SUCCESS.
Watch the replays of all those games before we locked in top spot and dropped our intensity.
Study the players faces, particularly our leaders, as they leave the field each week.
This team is DRIVEN.
It plays with PASSION.
It is HUNGRY.
It is on a MISSION.
I have NEVER seen a StKilda team play with such relentless vigour and selflessness.
We go into September virtually injury free and ready to explode in three big performances on the MCG stage.
If you love the Saints,
get behind them and help drive them to their destiny.
THIS IS OUR YEAR !!!!

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

Similar long suffering sainter here - over 40 years of waiting, hoping and far to often - despair.
This is the best StKilda team I have ever seen, they are indeed driven and clearly they are on a mission. This will be the most exciting finals series ever because I reckon we will own it.
25 days to glory - yep without a doubt, I reckon we are primed to take this one. Just enjoy this ppl - stop with the yeah buts, wotifs and gee I am worried crap, get behind this team and our coach. They are set to achieve greatness.

I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

I came to Australia a callow Pommy just weeks before the 1966 GF. I was initiated as a Saint Kilda fan by once removed relatives who lived in Moorabbin and watched my first game just days after arriving on the SS Fairstar. I had followed losing teams for all my life. I thought at the time that I was now on to a winner! 43 years later and I have the feeling that I may actually really be on to a winner!. Like other posters here I believe this to be the best St Kilda team I have ever seen. I am rendered nervous by the last few weeks of indifferent football but remain convinced that when challenged they will produce what we know they can. Please Saints, do it for the Doc!

Have had similar experience Enrico, to young to really remember 71, but felt that utter devastain of 97, all the horrible years of the late 70,s 80,s and a fair portion of the 90,s. Was nver confident in 2004, 05, always seemed to be one better than us.
But finally it appearswe ahve the team, and for the first time we have the coach (I think)
So hopfully this is it at last
Great post by the way

I'm convinced the past 3 weeks have had us with our eyes on the bigger prize! I'm convinced we'll come out this Sunday and smash the flippin' doors off Wobblewood! We've been carefully steering our outfit into the best possible shape for a finals thrust and a Grand Final showdown! This is it folks! We're on the verge of something special!!!
When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

Been a member for 38 years, did not miss a game between 74 and 87 (boy were they dark and depressing years!!)
My dear old Dad loved this club and passed away without seeing them win the big one (migrated to Oz in 68)
I Cried in 97 and 04.
At the moment my emotions run from excited to terrified, this is the best team I have seen playing and our best chance to take home the big one in a long, long, time.
LETS BRING IT HOME BOYS.....GO YOU MIGHTY SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway,i remember the ole man telling me of his "66" experience where on the day he jumped in his Valiant, drove a few k down the road(between New Norfolk and Hobart) pulled up on the side of the road and listened to it on the valiant's crackly radio (with a few beer's no doubt).......

The hearbreak of 1997 still hasn't gone away and it never will until we win one. This has to be the year...I can't wait anymore either! It will mean so much! Go saints
When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

Great post Enrico. I've been a member since '71 & been through the hard times like you. I feel like a cat on a hot tin roof or should that be a Saint in hell.
This is our best chance. I suppose the best we can all do as supporters of this club is to now unite and allow Ross Lyon and his staff our unqualified support. If Bally & Max don't get selected then so be it.
I believe our coaching department might have more of an idea than most of us given their achievements. That includes our ex-coach.
Go Saints

I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.
