Matchups V Collingwood

Post: # 806977Post henno »

I know its early, and the team hasnt been named, but i thought itd be good to discuss the matchups, in particular our defence vs pies attack, as i dont know many of the pies defenders.

Blake v Cloke

Jones v Davis

Bakes v Didak

Daws/Max v Anthony

Any other thoughts/players i missed out?

Did Jones play on Davis last time? Or was Davis a late withdrawal???

I seem to remember both....maybe one and the other for our last H&A game and the final last yr.....

Davis v Jones

Dawson v Cloke

Gilbert v Anthony

Baker v Didak

Gee their forwardline is so dimensional.....It is a worry.

They wouldn't be stupid enough to bring that old man into what has been a cohesive team of late. Oh, hang on - it's Collingwood. Rocca back, injury within 12 minutes.

Could Dempster play a role in the backline?

Yeh.... Collingwood might actually love this match up....

Who would be best fit for Didak? Dempster maybe?

Gilbert for Didak for mine. Smash him into the middle of next week early with a monster tackle :)

Didak plays in the middle these days so neither Gilbert or Baker will play on him. When he does go forward Baker will not play on him as he is to good overhead.

Who will Jones take out, Swan?

On first glance:

Blake vs Cloke
Dawson vs Anthony
Bakes vs Medhurst
Jones vs Davis
Dempster vs Didak
Hayes vs Swan

So really only try to shut down Davis and Didak and trust that our on-ballers will win the contested footy and be too quick for the Collingwood midfield.

A big thing will be the selection of a viable third target that will keep Maxwell accoutable. If he and O'Brien are allowed to drop off and compete thrid man up, Roo in particular will be in for a tough day.

Your last point is a good one, a good opportunity to bring Gwilt back in..

I agree. throw tags on Davis (Jones), Didak (I still like Gilbert), and perhaps Heath Shaw to stop their run out of the backline (Dempster). Leave the rest to go head-to-head. Swan can get his 40, as long as Lenny gets his.

It's not so far fetched, would he be confident of his current talls standing up in pressure games?

So who do you think will play on Didak?

Either CJ or no real tight match up in the middle and when forward probably Raph.

Why didn't Pendelbury play today? Any chance of missing again?
