oh Shane what happened

Post: # 805498Post saintbrat »

apparently Shane Warne spoke briefly to the Essendon team today

he has FAILED to indoctrinate his son into the Saints- he barracks for Essendon and Shane took him along then spoke to the players :

Pretty average, one thing not to have your son barrack for the Saints, another to take your kid to see the Essendon players, but to speak to them as well...surprised really.

Pathetic. Makes you wonder just how passionate he is about the saints. Unless Simone is mad bombers, I can't see how a parent let's that happen.

Um, plenty of sons/daughters barrack for different clubs than their parent(s). Nothing unusual.

no doubt the poor kid was brainwashed by a relative of some sort when warney was away on tour.

it happens, even in the best families

Um yes it is. If the parents are passionate about footy it certainly is. If the parents are indifferent, then you're right. Shane claims to be a mad saints man. Maybe he's not?

I disagree. I've seen many, many couples who are very passionate about a certain club only to have their kids grow up differently. It's not because they didn't raise them right or they're not passionate enough, it's just the way it turns out.

Sometimes the kids do it to spite their parents, other times it can be because they go to more games with friends or other relatives and end up following other clubs. Countless reasons.

How old is his son? If he's at school his best mate could be a Dons supporter...

I know thats how I ended up a Saints man.

Never said he was a bad father. I think someone else intimated that. I wouldn't have a clue - he appears to love his kids like the rest of us. Good dad? Who knows. Good husband? I think that's a bit clearer.

The point being is that I've seen very few if any kids support different teams to their parents, especially their dad, if they are genuinely passionate about their club.

The analogy with Harves though is a bit unfair. One played over 350 games and is a club legend at the club. I would be staggered if they supported anything but the saints that being the case. The other is a legend at a different sport altogether.

My dad is a mad passionate Carlton supporter and my 4 brothers also. I chose the saints 'cause I have always been the black sheep. It does happen and now after 34 years they are still doing all they can to convert me....

They are nuts about the Blues going to all GF's etc....God I was jealous as a kid!

My brother played AFL so its not like our family isn't passionate....footy is the One common thread that binds us.

It happens....even in the most footy passionate families. Good on Warnie for giving his son choice...

Young Jackson (?) Warne's affiliation to the Bombers was mentioned earlier this year in one of the sports "gossip"columns in the Sunday papers.

From memory, one of Shane's parents is an Essendon supporter and Matthew Lloyd popped around to the Warne's home for a kick to sure up young Warnie's support.

Give him a go, if his son chose to support Essendon, then that's his choice.

Some people are a little too precious.
